Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate two different types of adverse reactions, persistent itching nodules and contact allergy to aluminium, after immunization with aluminium-containing vaccines and aluminium-containing allergen extracts used for allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). 14. Pathogenetic mechanisms in irritable bowel syndrome
Sammanfattning : Aims of the thesis: To study new pathogenetic mechanisms in IBS; to find out if IBS is a neuromuscular disease affecting the small bowel; to study humoral factors in gut dysmotility associated with visceral neuropathy; and to study the natural history of post-infectious gastro-intestinal (GI) symptoms and risk factors for their development. Material and methods: In studies I and II, full-thickness jejunum biopsies from patients with severe IBS were investigated with immunohistochemistry. LÄS MER
15. Tuberculosis and HIV interaction in Ethiopian children : aspects on epidemiology, diagnosis and clinical management
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the influence of HIV on childhood tuberculosis (TB) in a high TB and HIV endemic setting. It is based on four studies involving the same study population of 522 tuberculous children and their 25 3 non-tuberculous controls, consecutively enrolled as out- and inpatients at the major paediatric hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
