  1. 1. Shear in Concrete Structural Elements Subjected to Dynamic Loads

    Författare :Johan Magnusson; Anders Ansell; Mikael Hallgren; Richard Malm; Jaap Weerheijm; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic load; initial response; shear failure; shear capacity; numerical simulations; bond; shear span; support reactions; Dynamisk last; initial respons; skjuvbrott; skjuvkapacitet; numeriska simuleringar; förankring; skjuvspännvidd; upplagsreaktioner; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Concrete structural elements subjected to severe dynamic loads such as explosions at close range may cause shear failures. In the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 two concrete columns on the ground level were reported to have failed in shear. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Analytical and numerical approaches to estimate peak shear strength of rock joints

    Författare :Francisco Ríos Bayona; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Diego Mas Ivars; José Muralha; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rock joint; Shear strength; Failure criterion; Numerical shear tests; Bergsprickor; Skjuvhållfasthet; Brottkriterium; Numeriska skjuvförsök; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden, there exists a large number of dams. Many of them are founded on rock masses normally affected by the presence of sub-horizontal rock fractures, which makes sliding along rock joints under the dam foundation one of the most critical failure mechanism. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessment of shear and energy‐absorption capacity of reinforced concrete elements under impulsive loads

    Författare :Viktor Peterson; Anders Ansell; Mikael Hallgren; Yanyan Sha; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Impulsive loads; impact; blast; shear reinforcement; shear failure; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Sammanfattning : Impulsive loads have been observed to cause brittle shear failure in reinforced concrete elements designed for ductile failure modes under static loads. Brittle failure modes exhibit poorer energy absorption capabilities compared to ductile flexural failure modes due to their limited deformation capacity, leading to premature failure. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nonlinear Numerical Simulations of Interactions Between Ice Rubble and Structure

    Författare :Aniket Patil; Andrzej Cwirzen; Björnar Sand; Lennart Fransson; Knut Vilhelm Høyland; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ice mechanics; ice rubble; sea ice ridges; punch through test; shear box test; friction coefficient; cohesive element method; smoothed particle hydrodynamics; continuous surface cap model; numerical modelling; Byggkonstruktion; Structural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This research is focused on three distinct but interconnecting topics:1) investigation of physical and mechanical properties of ice rubble, 2) material modelling of ice rubble, 3) numerical simulation of the interaction between ice rubble structure interaction. large scatter in the values of physical and mechanical properties of ice rubble can be seen in the literature due to non-standardised methods. 5. 5. FRCM-Composites for Strengthening Concrete Walls with Openings : Experimental and Numerical Analysis

    Författare :Cristian Sabau; Björn Täljsten; Thomas Blanksvärd; Gabriel Sas; Cosmin Popescu; Thanasis C. Triantafillou; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; FRCM; reinforced concrete; walls; openings; strenghtening; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Upgrading existing buildings to new functional requirements may require new openings that can weaken the structure, prompting the need for strengthening. In such cases, traditional strengthening solutions, such as creating a reinforced concrete or steel frame around the opening, imply long-term restrictions in the use of the structure. LÄS MER
