  1. 1. Evolution of acetylcholine receptors and study of the anatomy of the mouse brain reward system

    Författare :Julia Pedersen; Dan Larhammar; Arnaud Chatonnet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ventral Tegmental Area; Mesocorticolimbic system; Glutamate; Optogenetics; Histology; Acetylcholine; Receptor; Muscarininc; Nicotinic; G protein-coupled receptor; Gene duplication; Tetraploidization; Synteny; Paralogon; Ohnolog; Zebrafish; Spotted gar; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis work is divided in two parts. In the first part, I make use of the transgenic TRPV1-Cre mouse line as a tool to investigate the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Alcohol Consumption: A Study of Genetic and Environmental Correlates with Focus on the Stress System

    Författare :Aniruddha Todkar; Erika Comasco; Anja Huizink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alcohol; ELS; maternal separation; gene-environment; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Early life stress (ELS) is associated with risk of excessive alcohol drinking. However, the genetic mechanisms underlying the susceptibility to excessive alcohol drinking are not well understood. DNA methylation may mediate the influence of ELS on gene function and thereby contribute to alcohol misuse. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the role of NMDA receptor subunits in the acute and chronic effects of nicotine

    Författare :Alexander Kosowski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PCR; microdialysis; Wistar;

    Sammanfattning : Nicotine is considered the main dependence-producing constituent in tobacco products. In analogy with other drugs of abuse, nicotine enhances dopamine (DA) neurotransmission within the mesocorticolimbic DA system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endogenous Opioids and Voluntary Ethanol Drinking : Consequences of Postnatal Environmental Influences in Rats

    Författare :Lisa Gustafsson; Ingrid Nylander; Erika Roman; Ryszard Przewlocki; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Maternal separation; Maternal deprivation; Handling; Isolation; Alcohol; Two-bottle model; Four-bottle model; MEAP; Dynorphin B; Nociceptin orphanin FQ; Radioimmunoassay; Farmaceutisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic and environmental factors interact to determine the individual vulnerability to develop ethanol dependence. The neurobiological mechanisms underlying these processes are not fully understood. Endogenous opioid peptides have been suggested to contribute. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nicotinic effects on midbrain dopamine neurons : a dual mechanism of action

    Författare :Björn Schilström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :nicotine; dopamine; ventral tegmental area; glutamate; microdialysis; Fos expression; NMDA receptor; presynaptic;

    Sammanfattning : The neurons of the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system are located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) in the mesencephalon and send their projections to forebrain structures, such as the prefrontal cortex, the amygdala and the nucleus accumbens. The dopamine system is important in regulating mood and motivation as well as cognitive function and appear to be primarily involved in drug dependence, since most drugs abused by man stimulate this system.
