  1. 1. Leptin and the Intersection of Cardiovascular Disease, Metabolism, and Adipose Tissue

    Författare :Camilla Vavruch; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Johan Ärnlöv; Kristina Boström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Leptin; Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Adipose tissue; Cardiovascular disease; Metabolism; Cardiovascular risk factors;

    Sammanfattning : According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels, and it is the leading cause of death worldwide. The risk factors for CVD are divided into two major classes: non-modifiable (age, gender, family history) and modifiable (including tobacco use, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, abdominal obesity, high cholesterol, dyslipidemia, and stress). 2. 2. Apolipoprotein A-I in glucose metabolism and amyloidosis

    Författare :Oktawia Nilsson; Medicinsk proteinvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloidosis; Apolipoprotein A-I; beta cell; cardiovascular disease; cholesterol efflux; diabetes; glucose metabolism; glycation; high-density lipoprotein; insulin secretion;

    Sammanfattning : The role of Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), the main protein component of HDL, in cholesterol transport and metabolism is well known and has been studied for more than four decades. More recently, ApoA-I protein has been shown to also have a positive role in glucose control by both stimulation of glucose uptake by muscles and by increasing glucose-stimulated pancreatic insulin secretion. 3. 3. Angiopoietin-like protein 4 : an unfolding chaperone regulating lipoprotein lipase activity

    Författare :Valentina Sukonina; Gunilla Olivecrona; Lena Kjellen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein lipase; angiopoietin-like protein 4; protein folding; human adipose tissue; macrophages; peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta PPARδ ; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the main enzyme hydrolyzing triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in plasma. Proteoglycan-bound LPL on the vascular endothelium represent the functional pool of active enzyme. LPL is regulated in a tissue specific manner according to metabolic demands. LÄS MER

  4. 4. CXCL16 and CD137 in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Dick Wågsäter; Allan Sirsjö; Ewa Ehrenborg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; atherosclerosis; chemokine; cytokine; endothelial cells; inflammation; low-density lipoprotein; macrophages; scavenger receptor; smooth muscle cells; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a progressive inflammatory disease that is characterized by the accumulation of lipids, infiltrated cells and fibrous elements in large arteries. This thesis focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind foam cell formation and inflammation, two central processes in the development of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Metabolic and immunological interactions between adipose tissue and breast cancer - implications of obesity in tumor progression

    Författare :Peter Micallef; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; Adipose tissue; Macrophage; Metabolism; Paracrine;

    Sammanfattning : Triple-negative breast cancers have fewer treatment options than other breast cancers. The overall goal of this research is to identify new pharmaceutical targets for triple-negative breast cancer through studies of the tumor-promoting crosstalk between tumor and surrounding adipose tissue.
