16. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease : A clinical and histopathological study

17. Vehicle-related injuries : with emphasis on fatality prevention
Sammanfattning : According to WHO, Sweden should aim to reduce unintentional fatalities, particularly vehicle-related injuries, by 25% by the year 2000. The aim of this thesis was to analyze vehicle-related injuries and injury events, especially the contributory effects of alcohol and disease and the injury reducing capacity of helmets and airbags in order to point out some preventive measures. 18. Studies on mechanisms in liver fibrosis
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to elucidate mechanisms involved in liver fibrogenesis, the wound healing response of the liver to chronic injury. A role for TNF-[alpha] and all three isoforms of TGF-[beta] in the pathogenesis of hepatitis C related liver disease was suggested by the finding of increased expression of TGF-[beta]1-3, latent TGF-[beta] binding protein (LTBP), and TNF-[alpha] by immunohistochemistry in areas of inflammation and fibrosis in liver tissue from untreated patients with hepatitis C. 19. Non-Invasive Characterization of Liver Disease : By Multimodal Quantitative Magnetic Resonance
Sammanfattning : There is a large and unmet need for diagnostic tool that can be used to characterize chronic liver diseases (CLD). In the earlier stages of CLD, much of the diagnostics involves performing biopsies, which are evaluated by a histopathologist for the presence of e.g. fat, iron, inflammation, and fibrosis. LÄS MER
20. Iatrogenic bile duct injury during cholecystectomy
Sammanfattning : Background: Accidental injuries to the bile ducts are a rare but devastating complication to cholecystectomy, causing afflicted patients considerable morbidity, with subsequent impaired quality of life and significant health related costs. The knowledge regarding incidence, morbidity and prevention of such injuries is limited. LÄS MER
