1. Car-To-Car Side Impacts: Development and Validation of Mathematical Models and their Usability for Protective System Design
Sammanfattning : The objective of the present work was to develop and use mathematical models to establish principles for protective systems for occupants in car-to-car side impacts. The efforts in this work have concentrated on the protection of the thorax and abdomen since these body parts are most frequently injured in side impacts. LÄS MER
2. Vehicle-related injuries : with emphasis on fatality prevention
Sammanfattning : According to WHO, Sweden should aim to reduce unintentional fatalities, particularly vehicle-related injuries, by 25% by the year 2000. The aim of this thesis was to analyze vehicle-related injuries and injury events, especially the contributory effects of alcohol and disease and the injury reducing capacity of helmets and airbags in order to point out some preventive measures. 3. Integrated Pedestrian Safety Assessment: A Method to Evaluate Combinations of Active and Passive Safety
Sammanfattning : Pedestrian road casualties are a major concern in many countries. Vehicle safety systems attempt to reduce casualties, and the accurate assessment of such systems is therefore essential. Passive safety assessment is well established, and additional active safety assessment has recently emerged. LÄS MER
4. Nonlinear Programming - Robust Models and Applications
Sammanfattning : The major theme of this thesis is nonlinear programming with an emphasis on applications and robust models. The thesis has two parts. The first three papers comprise the first part. Here, we discuss robustness properties of optimal solutions to a variety of models. LÄS MER
5. Characteristics of nearside car crashes : an integrated approach to side impact safety
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Approximately 1.25 million people globally are killed in traffic accidents yearly. To achieve the UN Global Goal of a 50% reduction of fatal and serious injuries in 2020 a safer infrastructure, as well as new safety technologies, will be needed. Side crashes represent 20% of all serious and 25 % of fatal injuries. LÄS MER
