  1. 21. Insane in the membrane: : Insertion of marginally hyrdophobic transmembrane helices and global analysis of membrane protein topology

    Författare :Daniel Nilsson; Arne Elofsson; Susanna Törnroth Horsefield; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are responsible for carrying out most of the tasks in a living cell; transcription, translation, replication, movement, catalysis and communication to mention a few. A subset of proteins is the integral membrane proteins, IMPs, which play an important role in governing communication across membranes, whether it is the plasma membrane or an organelle membrane. 2. 22. Exploring molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets : Manipulating affinity by chemical modifications

    Författare :Aleksandra Balliu; Lars Baltzer; Oliver Seitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polypeptide conjugates; protein targets; molecular recognition; affinity enhancement; conjugation;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets were investigated. Polypeptides were derivatized with small organic molecules, peptides and oligonucleotides. New strategies were developed with the aim to increase affinities for proteins of biological interest. 3. 23. BRICHOS - a Novel Anti-Amyloid Chaperone : studies on pro-surfactant protein C

    Författare :Hanna Willander; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Lung surfactant protein C (SP-C) is a 35-residue, transmembrane (TM) peptide that is extremely hydrophobic and lacks known homologous proteins. Due to a high content in Val residues in the α-helical TM part, SP-C can spontaneously convert into β-sheet aggregates. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Adhesion-related interactions of Actinomyces and Streptococcus biofilm bacteria

    Författare :Mirva Drobni; Nicklas Strömberg; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biofilm; Actinomyces; Streptococcus; adhesion; Cariology; Cariologi;

    Sammanfattning : Adhesion of bacteria is a key event in biofilm formation and is mediated by bacterial adhesins recognising host or bacterial partner receptors. In oral biofilm formation, primary Actinomyces and Streptococcus colonizers adhere to salivary pellicle proteins such as proline-rich proteins (PRPs) as well as to mucosal surfaces. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Interaction-mediating sequences within class I viral fusion glycoproteins : their roles in viral infection and in applications

    Författare :Simin Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Class I viral fusion glycoproteins facilitate fusion of the viral envelope with cell membranes and entry of the virus into the cell, through extensive short sequence-specific interactions. Regions mediating these interactions include the N-terminal hydrophobic fusion peptide, a pair of extended 4,3-hydrophobic heptad repeats (HRs), a membrane-active membrane proximal external region (MPER), a hydrophobic transmembrane domain and the cytoplasmic tail region.
