  1. 1. Quantifying human balance : Analysis of force plate data

    Författare :Annica Önell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Systemanalys; Systems Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : There is a lack of reliable methods for assessment of balance suited for routine use in clinical settings. The thesis focuses on analysis of force plate data for evaluation of balance during normal, unperturbed standing and sitting. Some commonly used force plate based methods during unperturbed standing are presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Inertial motion capture for ambulatory analysis of human movement and balance

    Författare :Fredrik Olsson; Kjartan Halvorsen; Peter H. Veltink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Inertial sensors; Human motion capture; Calibration; Neuromuscular control; Human balance; Tremor quantification;

    Sammanfattning : Inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes) are ubiquitous in today’s society, where they can be found in many of our everyday mobile devices. These sensors are capable of recording the movement of the device, and by extension, the movement of humans carrying or interacting with the device. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Parks, Policies and People : Nature Conservation Governance in Post-Socialist EU Countries

    Författare :Natalya Yakusheva; Björn Hassler; Magnus Boström; Annica Kronsell; Stacy Vandeveer; Södertörns högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; national parks; Carpathians; Poland; Slovakia; Europeanization; Central Eastern Europe; multi-level governance; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Sammanfattning : The national parks in the Carpathian Mountains along the Polish and Slovak border represent encompassing policy agendas that strive to balance biodiversity conservation and social welfare tasks. These countries have, during the last 25 years, undergone rapid transformation from socialist regimes to liberal democracies, and this transformation has affected the political, social and economic spheres. 4. 4. A Fine Balance : Addressing Usability and Users’ Needs in the Development of IT Systems for the Workplace

    Författare :Inger Boivie; Jan Gulliksen; Henrik Artman; Helena Karasti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; human-computer interaction; usability; usability professional; usability practitioner; user-centred design; user-centred systems design; IT systems development; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : IT systems with poor usability are a serious problem in many workplaces. Many workers, particularly office workers, spend a large part of their workday at the computer, and usability problems can cause frustration and impact negatively on productivity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Primary Production in African Drylands : Quantifying Supply and Demand Using Earth Observation and Socio-ecological Data

    Författare :Abdulhakim Abdi; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Net primary production; Africa; Drylands; Coupled human and natural systems; Human-Environment Relations; Food security; Earth observation; Remote Sensing;

    Sammanfattning : The human-environment connection in the mostly rural drylands of sub-Saharan Africa forms a complex, interlinked system that provides ecosystem services. This system is susceptible to climatic variability that impacts the supply of its products, and high population growth, which impacts the demand for these products. LÄS MER
