1. Dualities, Symmetries and Unbroken Phases in String Theory : Probing the Composite Nature of the String
Sammanfattning : The thesis treats aspects of string/M-theory in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and their supersymmetric completions. By applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, as well as models of spin chains and singletons, we try to attain a better understanding of the underlying symmetries and the unbroken phases of string/M-theory. 2. Spin-offs from Stretching a Point : Strings, Branes and Higher Spin
Sammanfattning : String theory has proved to be a valuable theoretical laboratory for probing gravity and gauge theory in a unified framework. In this thesis some of the exciting spin-offs of string theory such as branes and higher spin are studied. After a review of the basics of string theory the four papers of the thesis are discussed. 3. A Kerr-full Study of Higher-Spin Amplitudes : An on-shell construction of higher-spin amplitudes for black holes and strings
Sammanfattning : Recently, it was shown that Kerr black holes can be described via the classical infinite-spin limit of a special class of scattering amplitudes in a massive higher-spin quantum field theory. Although this approach has successfully obtained state-of-the-art results for spinning black-hole binaries, only the three-point amplitude that describes Kerr is known in full generality and a full understanding of the underlying Lagrangian is still missing. 4. Torn, Spun and Chopped : Various Limits of String Theory
Sammanfattning : For the first time in the history of physics we stand in front of a theory that might actually serve as a unification of it all - string theory. It provides a self-consistent framework for gravity and quantum mechanics, which naturally incorporates matter and gauge interactions of the type seen in the standard model. LÄS MER
5. From Quantum to Classical Scattering of Kerr Black Holes : A construction of massive higher-spin scattering amplitudes and their classical limits
Sammanfattning : Gravitational scattering processes involving black holes as asymptotic states can provide insight into the classical dynamics of binary black hole systems. The observed gravitational waves emitted during mergers need to be compared to high-precision theoretical predictions. LÄS MER
