  1. 1. Dualities, Symmetries and Unbroken Phases in String Theory : Probing the Composite Nature of the String

    Författare :Johan Engquist; Joseph Minahan; Charlotte Kristjansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Theoretical Physics; String Theory; M-Theory; Higher Spin Gauge Theory; Super Yang-Mills Theory; Anti-de Sitter Spacetime; Singletons; Massless Higher Spin Gauge Fields; AdS CFT Correspondence; Spin Chains; Semiclassical Strings; Tensionless Limits; Conformal Symmetry; Supersymmetry; Higher Spin Gauge Symmetry; Integrability; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis treats aspects of string/M-theory in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and their supersymmetric completions. By applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, as well as models of spin chains and singletons, we try to attain a better understanding of the underlying symmetries and the unbroken phases of string/M-theory. 2. 2. From Quantum to Classical Scattering of Kerr Black Holes : A construction of massive higher-spin scattering amplitudes and their classical limits

    Författare :Lucile Cangemi; Henrik Johansson; Yu-tin Huang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Higher-spin theory; higher-spin amplitudes; Kerr black holes; EFT; black hole scattering; classical limit; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Gravitational scattering processes involving black holes as asymptotic states can provide insight into the classical dynamics of binary black hole systems. The observed gravitational waves emitted during mergers need to be compared to high-precision theoretical predictions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Classically Consistent Theories of Interacting Spin-2 Fields

    Författare :Angnis Margreta Schmidt-May; Fawad Hassan; Cedric Deffayet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis comprises a study of recently developed nonlinear theories for massive spin-2 fields that go by the names of Massive Gravity and Bimetric Theory. As we demonstrate in a Hamiltonian analysis, the construction of these theories avoids the notorious Boulware-Deser ghost instability that generically plagues nonlinear spin-2 interactions and renders their description inconsistent.
