1. Recent Studies on Lp-Norm Estimation
Sammanfattning : When estimating the parameters in a linear regression model, the method of least squares (L^-norm estimator) is often used. When thè residuals are independent and identically normally distributed, the least squares estimator is BLUE as well as equivalent to the maximum likelihood estimator. LÄS MER
2. Role of plants in treating metal-polluted waters in wetlands
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of wetland plants in wetland treatment of metal-polluted waters. The specific aims were to investigate metal uptake in various wetland plant species; whether and how wetland plants tolerate high metal concentrations in their immediate surroundings, and how the pH and metal concentrations of polluted waters influence metal uptake in wetland plants were also investigated. 3. Optimal Design and Inference for Correlated Bernoulli Variables using a Simplified Cox Model
Sammanfattning : This thesis proposes a simplification of the model for dependent Bernoulli variables presented in Cox and Snell (1989). The simplified model, referred to as the simplified Cox model, is developed for identically distributed and dependent Bernoulli variables. LÄS MER
4. Optimal Design of Experiments for the Quadratic Logistic Model
Sammanfattning : Optimal design of experiments for binary data is the topic of this thesis. A particular logistic model including a quadratic term in the linear predictor is considered. Determining an optimal design for this model is complicated by the fact that the optimal design is dependent on the unknown true parameters. LÄS MER
5. Estimation and optimal designs for multi-response Emax models
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns optimal designs and estimation approaches for a class of nonlinear dose response models, namely multi-response Emax models. These models describe the relationship between the dose of a drug and two or more efficacy and/or safety variables. LÄS MER
