  1. 1. Ophthalmological aspects of prematurity

    Författare :Gerd Holmström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Prematmity - retinopathy of prematmity - incidence - cryotherapy refractive enors - visual impairment - strabismus - cerebral lesions - matemalrisk factorsneonatallisk factors;

    Sammanfattning : In a prospective, population-based study of a weIl defined geographical area in Sweden, an ROP incidence of 40.4% was found among 260 prematurely born infants with a birth weight of 1500 grams or less. Cryotherapy was performed in 10.8% of the infants. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Two worlds, one goal : A Clinician’s Perspective on Laboratory Analyses in Anticoagulant Treatment

    Författare :Kerstin Arbring; Tomas Lindahl; Srinivas Uppugunduri; Margareta Holmström; Gerd Lärfars; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anticoagulants; Warfarin; DOAC; PT-INR; VKORC1;

    Sammanfattning : Almost precisely a century ago, in the 1920s and 1930s, cattle bled to death in North America after being fed moldy hay containing sweet clover, the yellow Melilotus officinalis, and the white Melilotus albus. The toxic substance in the hay inhibiting blood coagulation was identified and named dicumarol. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Retinopathy of Prematurity in Infants Born Before 27 Weeks of Gestation : A National Population-based Study in Sweden During 2004-2007

    Författare :Dordi Austeng; Gerd E. Holmström; Karin B.M. Källen; Uwe W. Ewald; Olav Haugen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinopathy of prematurity; extremely preterm; population-based; epidemiology; treatment; natural history; screening; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmiatrik; Pediatrics; Pediatrik; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Improved neonatal care has resulted in an increasing population of surviving infants. Neonatal morbidity in preterm infants is, however, high, and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the major neonatal morbidities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Short- and Long-Term Follow-Up of Ophthalmological Findings in Preterm Infants and Children

    Författare :Eva Larsson; Gerd Holmström; Kristina Tornqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; prematurity; follow-up; retinopathy of prematurity; ROP; infants; children; incidence; screening; refraction; visual acuity; visual fields; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : In a prospective population-based study in Stockholm County, 1998-2000, the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was investigated and was found to be 36% in prematurely-born infants with a birth weight of ≤ 1500 grams. Compared to a study performed ten years ago, the overall incidence was unchanged, but was reduced in “mature” infants and increased in immature ones. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure and Function of the Retina in Children Born Extremely Preterm and in Children Born At Term

    Författare :Anna Molnar; Gerd E. Holmström; Eva K. B. Larsson; Sten O. Andréasson; Christopher J. Lyons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; optical coherence tomography; multifocal electroretinogram; full-field electroretinography; extremely preterm children; retinopathy of prematurity; gestational age; gender; Ophtalmology; Oftalmiatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Optical coherence tomography (OCT), multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) and full-field electroretinography (ffERG) give important information about retinal structure and function.Purpose: To collect normative data of macular Cirrus Spectral domain (SD)-OCT assessments and of mfERG measurements of healthy children (papers I and II).
