  1. 16. Migration of molecules in the brain : focus on the extracellular space and the cerebrospinal fluid

    Författare :Malin Höistad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Volume transmission; rat; diffusion; striatum; dual-probe microdialysis; delivery; recovery; clearance; uptake; dopamine; metabolism; radiotracer; mannitol; cisterna magna; opioids; peptides; betaendorphin; mu-opioid receptors; mismatch; TH; DBH; immunohistochemistry; fear.;

    Sammanfattning : Three different molecules and three different experimental models were used to study the migration of molecules in the rat brain: a neurotransmitter- dopamine, an extracellular market- mannitol, and a neuropeptide beta-endorphin. Two models in vivo were used to study the diffusion and migration of molecules: dual-probe rnicrodialysis in the striatum, and direct intrastriatal microinjections followed by cerebrospinal fluid sampling from the cisterna magna. 2. 17. Fluid state and blood pressure control in patients on maintenance hemodialysis

    Författare :Krassimir S Katzarski; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic renal failure; hemodialysis; blood pressure; hypertension; fluid state; extracellular volume; blood volume; dry weight;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of high mortality in dialysis patients. Hypertension is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and despite the use of highly efficient antihypertensive drugs (AHD), blood pressure (BP) is poorly controlled in the vast majority of hemodialysis (HD) patients. 3. 18. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species

    Författare :Fredrik Clausen; Lars Hillered; Tiit Mathiesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Traumatic Brain Injury; Reactive oxygen species; Fluid percussion injury; Controlled cortical impact; weight drop injury; Extracellular-signal regulated kinase; apoptosis; free radical scavenging; morphology; functional outcome; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Collagen of the extracellular matrix. Functional and structural studies

    Författare :Olof Olsson; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Collagen; Extra Cellular Matrix. TGF-beta; integrin αvβ6;

    Sammanfattning : The cancer microenvironment has been attracting increasing attention as the realization of its importance for both disease treatment and malignant progression. Here the aim was to elucidate some of the effects and mechanisms of the tumor microenvironment related to the extracellular matrix (ECM). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Misfolded superoxide dismutase-1 in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

    Författare :Per Zetterström; Stefan L Marklund; Lawrence J. Hayward; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALS; SOD1; protein misfolding; SOD1 conformation; disulfide-reduced; transgenic mice; cerebrospinal fluid; protein-protein interaction; antibodies; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease in which the motor neurons die in a progressive manner, leading to paralysis and muscle wasting. ALS is always fatal, usually through respiratory failure when the disease reaches muscles needed for breathing. Most cases are sporadic, but approximately 5–10% are familial. LÄS MER
