6. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling
Sammanfattning : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 7. Colloidal Organic Pollutants in Road Runoff: Sources, Emissions and Effective Treatment Technologies
Sammanfattning : Thousands of organic substances circulate in our society and are diffusely emitted through traffic, combustion and leaching from constructions and building materials into the urban environment. The research in this PhD thesis focuses on road runoff as the highest concentrations of pollutants are frequently found in runoff from areas with high traffic intensity. LÄS MER
8. Uptake Processes of Polychlorinated Biphenyls at the Base of the Pelagic Food Web
Sammanfattning : Hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) are persistent, toxic to biota and are known to bioaccumulate in food webs. In this thesis, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were used as model compounds to study the fate and transport of HOCs in the aquatic environment. LÄS MER
9. In silico methods to prioritize chemicals with high exposure potential
Sammanfattning : Chemicals offer a wide range of desired functions and are used in a variety of consumer goods and industrial sectors. The number of individual synthetic organic chemicals produced and the total global chemical production volume are increasing. LÄS MER
10. Analytical methods for biomolecules involved in atmospheric aerosol formation in the Arctic
Sammanfattning : In the Arctic, increasing ice-free conditions and nutrients freed from the melting ice must strongly influence the marine life. Aerosol emissions from microbiological marine processes may affect the low clouds and fogs over the summer Arctic, which in turn have effects on the melting of sea ice. LÄS MER
