  1. 1. Properties and analysis of dioxin-like compounds in marine samples from Sweden

    Författare :Kjell Lundgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; planar dioxin-like compound; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated biphenyl; polychlorinated naphthalene; alkylated polychlorinated dibenzofuran; high-performance liquid chromatography; PX-21 carbon column; biomagnification factor; biota to sediment accumulation factor; fluxes; relative retention time; mass spectrometry; relative response factor; ultra-violet spectroscopy; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been assigned toxic equivalency factors (TEFs). These compounds are today routinely analysed with sophisticated analytical techniques. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling

    Författare :Kristina Sundqvist; Karin Wiberg; Mats Tysklind; Paul Geladi; Miriam Diamond; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-water gas exchange; chiral; congener pattern; enantiomer; enantiomeric fraction; fugacity; HCH; hexachlorocyclohexane; homologue profile; indicator congener; isomer pattern; pattern analysis; PCA; PCB; PCDD F; PMF; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin; polychlorinated biphenyl; positive matrix factorization; principal component analysis; receptor modeling; source apportioning; source; source tracing; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar;

    Sammanfattning : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 3. 3. Metabolism of some polychlorinated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners in the rat

    Författare :Anna Sandholm; Bert-Ove Lund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : For the understanding of the metabolic fate of xenobiotics, in vivo studies are needed. In this thesis the metabolism of CB-28 and CB-77 and BDE-209 in the rat are determined. In addition, pharmacokinetic studies of CB-28 and BDE- 209 are included. The compounds were radiolabelled and their excretion and tissue distribution determined. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from the Baltic Sea suffer from a reproduction disease known as the M74-syndrome. Newly hatched fry develop nerve disorders and die between 3-5 days after the first symptoms are seen. This is a maternally transmitted disease that is casued by a thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency. Sammanfattning : The Clara cell secretory protein (CCSP; also known as Polychlorinated Biphenyl-binding protein (PCB-BP) or Uteroglobin) is specifically produced and secreted into the distal airway lumen by the non-ciliated Clara cell. It is a low molecular weight homodimeric protein and binds certain metabolites of PCBs as well as progestins and calcium. LÄS MER
