1. Dioxins and dioxin-like compounds in thermochemical conversion of biomass : formation, distribution and fingerprints
Sammanfattning : In the transition to a sustainable energy supply there is an increasing need to use biomass for replacement of fossil fuel. A key challenge is to utilize biomass conversion technologies in an environmentally sound manner. LÄS MER
2. Dissolved organic matter in lakes : Chemical diversity and continuum of reactivity
Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is the largest pool of organic carbon in aquatic systems and an important component of the global carbon cycle. Large amounts of DOM are decomposed within lakes, resulting in fluxes of CO2 and CH4 to the atmosphere. LÄS MER
3. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants
Sammanfattning : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. LÄS MER
4. Legacy persistent organic pollutants and chemicals of emerging concern in Sweden : from indoor environments to remote areas
Sammanfattning : Bulk atmospheric deposition samples were taken every two months for a year in 2009-2010 at two sites in northern Sweden and analyzed for a suite of legacy and emerging persistent organic chemicals including legacy organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and novel flame retardants (NFRs). To further investigate the urban occurrence and contribution to remote contamination of flame retardants, indoor air, ventilation system air, and dust were sampled in several microenvironments in Stockholm during the winter of 2012 for analysis of PBDEs, isomer-specific hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD), and NFRs. 5. Methodologies to assess the fate of polar organic compounds in aquatic environments
Sammanfattning : Polar organic compounds (POCs) are chemicals with polar functional groups in their structure. The functional groups make the compounds hydrophilic and less prone to partition with biota. However, the knowledge of their fate is limited due to difficulties associated with their measurements.
