  1. 1. Biased Evolution : Causes and Consequences

    Författare :Gerrit Brandis; Diarmaid Hughes; Erik Böttger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; Codon usage bias; Post-transcriptional regulation; Recombination; Inversion; EF-Tu; Frameshift suppression; Antibiotic resistance; Rifampicin; Ciprofloxacin; Compensatory evolution; Drug efflux; RNA polymerase; DNA gyrase; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In evolution alternative genetic trajectories can potentially lead to similar phenotypic outcomes. However, certain trajectories are preferred over others. These preferences bias the genomes of living organisms and the underlying processes can be observed in ongoing evolution. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Haptoglobin: Biosynthesis and Evolution

    Författare :Krzysztof B. Wicher; Erik Fries; John W. M. Creemers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; haptoglobin; cleavage; C1r-LP; evolution; vertebrate; endoplasmic; Golgi; complement; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Haptoglobin (Hp) is a serum protein known for its ability to form a tight complex with hemoglobin (Hb) and thereby inhibiting the oxidative activity of Hb. Mammalian Hp is synthesized as a precursor (proHp) that undergoes proteolytic cleavage by a previously unidentified enzyme in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Probabilistic Modelling of Domain and Gene Evolution

    Författare :Sayyed Auwn Muhammad; Jens Lagergren; Bastien Boussau; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phylogenetics; Phylogenomics; Evolution; Domain Evolution; Gene tree; Domain tree; Bayesian Inference; Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Homology Inference; Gene families; C2H2 Zinc-Finger; Reelin Protein; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Phylogenetic inference relies heavily on statistical models that have been extended and refined over the past years into complex hierarchical models to capture the intricacies of evolutionary processes. The wealth of information in the form of fully sequenced genomes has led to the development of methods that are used to reconstruct the gene and species evolutionary histories in greater and more accurate detail. 4. 4. Diagenesis and Sequence Stratigraphy : Predictive Models for Reservoir Quality Evolution of Fluvial and Glaciogenic and Non-glaciogenic, Paralic Deposits

    Författare :Mohamed Kalefa; Sadoon Morad; Alessandro Amorosi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Siliciclastic diagenesis; Sequence stratigraphy; Glacial and non-glacial; Fluvial; Paralic and shallow marine; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Development of a predictive model for the distribution of diagenetic alterations and related evolution of reservoir quality of sandstones was achieved by integrating the knowledge of diagenesis to sequence stratigraphy. This approach allows a better elucidation of the distribution of eogenetic alterations within sequence stratigraphy, because changes in the relative sea level induce changes to: (i) pore water chemistry, (ii) residence time of sediments under certain near-surface geochemical conditions, (iii) variations in the detrital composition, and (iv) amounts and type of organic matter. 5. 5. Intrinsic disorder and tandem repeats - match made in evolution : Computational studies of molecular evolution

    Författare :Oxana Lundström; Arne Elofsson; Liberles-Siltberg Jessica; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein evolution; intrinsically disordered proteins IDPs ; tandem repeats; short tandem repeats STRs ; genetic variation; orphan proteins; GC content; human STR variation; colorectal cancer; gene expression; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are both the building blocks and workers of the cell, carrying out most of the important functions. For a long time, their structure has been regarded as the primary factor for their function, but intrinsically disordered proteins demonstrate an alternative to this paradigm. LÄS MER
