  1. 1. Atmospheric & Oceanic Applications of Eulerian and Lagrangian Transport Modelling

    Författare :Joakim Kjellsson; Kristofer Döös; Jonas Nycander; Joseph LaCasce; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eulerian; Lagrangian; trajectory; climate; atmosphere; ocean; modelling; drifter; thermodynamic; climate change; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents several ways to understand transports of air and water masses in the atmosphere and ocean, and the transports of energy that they imply. It presents work using various kinds of observations as well as computer simulations of the atmosphere and oceans. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling impact climate-related change on the thermal responses of lakes

    Författare :Ana I. Ayala; Donald C. Pierson; Stéphane Goyette; Andreas Lorke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modelling; climate change; lakes; thermal structure; surface heat fluxes; extreme events;

    Sammanfattning : In response to climate-related changes, lakes worldwide have experienced warmer surface water temperatures, shorter ice cover periods and changes in lake stratification. As these aspects of lake dynamics exert substantial control over nutrient availability, oxygenation and biogeochemical cycling, predicting changes in lake water temperature and stratification dynamics can improve our understanding of the consequences of warming on lake ecosystems. 3. 3. Ridged sea ice modelling in climate applications

    Författare :Sebastian Mårtensson; Markus Meier; Kristofer Döös; Peter A. Lundberg; Frank Kauker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic ocean; Baltic Sea; sea ice; ice dynamics; numerical modelling; climate; ice deformation; ice compression; physical and biogeochemical interactions; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : This work aims to increase our understanding of the nature of large scale features of sea ice from a dynamics point of view.Sea ice plays an important part in the exchange of heat and humidity between sea and air and thus is an important component of the climate system. 4. 4. Understanding West African Monsoon Variability : Insights from Paleoclimate Modelling of Past Warm Climates

    Författare :Ellen Berntell; Qiong Zhang; Alessandra Giannini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; West African Monsoon; Monsoon Variability; Paleoclimate; Climate modelling; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The Sahel, a water-vulnerable region in West Africa, relies heavily on rainfed agriculture. The region experienced pronounced droughts during the 20th Century, emphasising the socio-economic importance of understanding the drivers of the rainfall variability. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Modelling the early to mid-Holocene Arctic climate

    Författare :Marit Berger; Arne Johansson; Rodrigo Caballero; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Arctic; early Holocene; mid-Holocene; climate modelling; paleoclimate; sea ice; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : In the recent past it has become evident that the Earth's climate is changing, and that human activity play a significant role in these changes. One of the regions where the ongoing climate change has been most evident is in the Arctic: the surface temperature has increased twice as much in this region as compared to the global average, in addition, a significant decline in the Arctic sea-ice extent has been observed in the past decades.
