2. Coated Norway Spruce : Influence of Wood Characteristics on Water Sorption and Coating Durability
Sammanfattning : Wood used outdoors is often degraded and discoloured by microorganisms as a natural part of its life cycle, particularly when exposed to high levels of moisture for prolonged times. In this case, the application of a coating (i.e. paint) is an option for increasing the service life of the wood. LÄS MER
3. Non-ionic contrast media in acrylic bone cement
Sammanfattning : Non-ionic, water-soluble, contrast media, iohexol and/or iodixanol, have been investigated for use in acrylic bone cement aimed for arthroplasty. Bone cement, containing the new particulate contrast media , was investigated for: quasi-static mechanical properties, water uptake properties, release of contrast media from the bone cement, biological responses from particulate bone cement, polymerisation reaction, polymerisation temperature, glass transition temperature, injectability and penetration into human cancellous bone, and radiopacity. 4. Exploring strategies to improve volumetric hydrogen productivities of Caldicellulosiruptor species
Sammanfattning : Ongoing consumption of fossil-based fuels generates a massive amount of greenhouse gases. This may lead to global warming that is currently threatening human society and wild animal habitats. Hydrogen is an energy carrier with the highest energy content per weight compared to other all fuels and no carbon dioxide is released when combusted. LÄS MER
5. Steric Stabilization of Polylactide particles achieved by Covalent 'grafting-from' with Hydrophilic Polymers
Sammanfattning : Despite numerous advantages of using particles in a wide range of applications, they have one drawback that is their tendency to agglomerate. One way to overcome this problem is to sterically stabilize the particles by introducing polymeric chains covalently attached to the surface. LÄS MER
