  1. 6. Marginal behaviour of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet during its final termination and deglaciation over Northeastern Germany

    Författare :Joachim Albrecht; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Physical geography; Marginal dome; Deglaciation; Clast lithology; Clast fabric; Germany; Pomeranian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from studies on geomorphology, lithostratigraphy and ice flow patterns during the final termination and deglaciation of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. Ice flow patterns derived from till fabrics and glaciotectonical data indicate that short-lived marginal domes had formed during the advance and the retreat of the last Scandinavian Ice Sheet in NE Germany. 2. 7. Remote Sensing and GIS : Applications for Groundwater Potential Assessment in Eritrea

    Författare :Semere Solomon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Remote sensing; Geographic Information Systems; groundwater; geomorphology; Digital elevation model; lithology; hard rock; lineament; structures; hydrogeology; Eritrea;

    Sammanfattning : An integrated approach with remote sensing, GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) and more traditional fieldworktechniques was adopted to assess the groundwater potential inthe central highlands of Eritrea. Digitally enhanced colorcomposites and panchromatic images of Landsat TM and Spot wereinterpreted to produce thematic maps such as lithology andlineaments. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Permafrost carbon in a changing Arctic : On periglacial landscape dynamics, organic matter characteristics, and the stability of a globally significant carbon pool

    Författare :Niels Weiss; Peter Kuhry; Duane Froese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Permafrost; Carbon; Climate; Arctic; Soil; Organic Matter; Cryosphere; Geomorphology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Organic matter (OM) in arctic permafrost ground contains about twice as much carbon (C) as is currently present in the atmosphere. Climate change is particularly strong in the Arctic, and could cause a considerable part of the OM in permafrost to thaw out, decompose, and be released as greenhouse gases; further enhancing global warming. 4. 9. Regional Nutrient Budgets in Forest Soils in a Policy Perspective

    Författare :Cecilia Akselsson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; geomorphology; Physical geography; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; skogsteknik; skogsbruk; Skogsvetenskap; forestry technology; forestry; Silviculture; Näringslära; Nutrition; Växtekologi; policy-making; Plant ecology; regional scale; deposition; eutrophication; carbon sequestration; acidification; Nutrient budget;

    Sammanfattning : Sweden's forests are one of its most important natural resources, as well as being important from ecological and social perspectives. Nutrient sustainability is essential to maintain the production capacity and reduce the effects of acidification and eutrophication. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Författare :Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. LÄS MER
