1. Numerical optimization of hull/propeller/rudder configurations
Sammanfattning : The new framework of the global economy has stimulated and expanded the shipbuilding and shipping industry, especially in Asia in the twenty-first century. This induces urgent and high requirements on designing and building both conventional and new types of ships with high performance, such as high speed, manoeuvrability, seaworthiness and so on. 2. Dynamic effects on yacht sails and rudders
Sammanfattning : In search of increased performance, modern sailing vessels are becoming more and more complex, introducing additional challenges in the design process. The dynamic behaviour of the vessel is of great importance to safe and efficient operation and thus needs to be accounted for when evaluating the performance. LÄS MER
3. Investigation on Propeller-Rudder Interaction by Numerical Methods
Sammanfattning : The axial forces in a propeller-rudder interactive system working in uniform flow are theoretically studied: In a steady linear method the propeller is represented by bound and free vortex systems, the rudder by vortex and source filaments and the rudder wake by free vortex filaments. A lifting-line analysis method predicts the propeller characteristics. LÄS MER
4. Controlling the Roll Responses of PCTC's
Sammanfattning : Modern Panamax Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) have become more vulnerable to critical roll responses as built in margins have been traded against increased transport efficiency. The research presented in this licentiate thesis aims at enhancing the predictability and control of these critical roll responses. LÄS MER
5. Controlling the Roll Responses of Volume Carriers
Sammanfattning : Modern volume carriers such as container vessels, cruise ships and Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC’s) have become more vulnerable to critical roll responses as built in margins have been traded against increased transport efficiency. The research presented in this doctoral thesis aims at enhancing the predictability and control of these critical roll responses. LÄS MER
