Sammanfattning : Kynurenic acid is an astrocyte-derived tryptophan metabolite and a marker of neuroinflammation that antagonizes N-metyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain. Increased levels have been found in the cerebrospinal (CSF) and brains of patients with schizophrenia and experimental studies have shown that kynurenic acid bi-directionally influences dopaminergic neurotransmission.
