11. Microfabrication and Integration Using Sub-Picosecond Laser Pulses and Magnetic Assembly
Sammanfattning : Microfabricated devices and systems have many exciting applications such as accelerometers for triggering the launching of airbags in cars, gyroscopes for sensing the rotations of mobile phones, and micromirror arrays for controlling light reflection in digital light projectors. These devices are currently produced using semiconductor manufacturing techniques, which are suitable for large volumes of mostly planar structures. LÄS MER
12. Picosecond X-ray Diffraction Studies of Bulk and Nanostructure Materials
Sammanfattning : Fast phenomena occurring after laser excitation were studied using time-resolved X-ray diffraction (TXRD). In most experiments, a femtosecond laser pulse was used to excite the sample, and X-rays were used as a probe. LÄS MER
13. Generation and Applications of Picosecond Pulses in High-Capacity Fiber Optic Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses. 14. Laser-driven beams of fast ions, relativistic electrons and coherent x-ray photons
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents experimental results on the development and optimization of novel and highly compact sources of beams of fast ions, relativistic electrons and coherent x-rays, driven by intense laser-plasma interactions. The rapid development of high-power, short-pulse laser systems have made available peak powers reaching the petawatt regime and focused intensities reaching 10^21 W/cm2. LÄS MER
15. Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Applications of Spectroscopy in the Photon Migration Regime
Sammanfattning : The present thesis is devoted to two different matters: One part is the development of a novel optical technique for characterisation of solid pharmaceutical materials. The other part being the continued development of photon time-of-flight spectroscopy, as well as exploration of new application areas of this method. LÄS MER
