  1. 1. Photochemical Surface Functionalization : Synthesis, Nanochemistry and Glycobiological Studies

    Författare :Lingquan Deng; Olof Ramström; Javier Rojo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; Glycobiology; Carbohydrate-protein interactions; Perfluorophenylazide PFPA ; Photochemistry; Carbohydrate surface immobilization; Carbohydrate microarrays; Surface plasmon resonance SPR ; Quartz crystal microbalance QCM ; Atomic force microscopy AFM ; Glyconanomaterials; Concanavalin A Con A ; Cyanovirin-N CV-N ; 1-Glycosyl thiols; Mutarotation; 1-S-glycosylation; Stereocontrol;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis mainly deals with the development of photochemical approaches to immobilize carbohydrates on surfaces for glycobiological studies. These approaches have been incorporated into a number of state-of-the-art nanobio-platforms, including carbohydrate microarrays, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and glyconanomaterials. 2. 2. Damage mechanisms for near-infrared radiation induced cataract

    Författare :Zhaohua Yu; Per Söderberg; Konstantin Galichanin; Masami Kojima; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infrared radiation; photochemical; thermal; forward light scattering; lens; cataract; temperature; Arrhenius equation; heat diffusion;

    Sammanfattning : Purpose: 1) To estimate the threshold dose and the time evolution for cataract induction by near infrared radiation (IRR) in seconds exposure time domain; 2) to determine the ocular temperature development during the threshold exposure; 3) to investigate if near IRR induces cumulative lens damage considering irradiance exposure time reciprocity; 4) to experimentally estimate the temperature in the lens indirectly from the measurement of temperature-induced light scattering increase.Methods: Before exposure, 6-weeks-old albino rats were anesthetized and the pupils of both eyes were dilated. 3. 3. Photochemical alterations of dissolved organic matter : Impact on heterotrophic bacteria and carbon cycling in lakes

    Författare :Stefan Bertilsson; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Globally, the amount of carbon in dissolved organic matter (DOM) is similar to the total amount in the atmosphere. DOM also plays a key role in structuring natural surface waters and affects the physical, chemical, and biological character of these systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular Approaches to Photochemical Solar Energy Conversion : Towards Synthetic Catalysts for Water Oxidation and Proton Reduction

    Författare :Gerriet Eilers; Reiner Lomoth; Leif Hammarström; Wolfgang Lubitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physical chemistry; artificial photosynthesis; solar fuel; WOC; OEC; accumulative electron transfer; hydrogenase mimic; oxygen evolution; proton reduction; water oxidation; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : A molecular system capable of photoinduced water splitting is an attractive approach to solar energy conversion. This thesis deals with the functional characterization of molecular building blocks for the three principal functions of such a molecular system: Photoinduced accumulative charge separation, catalytic water oxidation, and catalytic proton reduction. 5. 5. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers and Tetrabromobisphenol A : Chemical synthesis, X-ray crystallography and Photochemical degradation

    Författare :Johan Eriksson; Åke Bergman; Lars Eriksson; Mats Tysklind; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In the 1960s’ several manmade chemicals were detected in the environment, far from their sources. The most well known, and most likely those with the largest impact on the society, were DDT and its related compounds, and PCBs. These anthropogenic compounds were characterised as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). LÄS MER
