  1. 1. Reducing the morbidity of transurethral resection of the prostate based on patient selection, fluid absorption, and blood loss

    Författare :Lars Sandfeldt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Absorption; blood loss; surgical; cardiovascular disease; electrocardiography; ethanol; finasteride; glycine; hemodynamics; intracranial pressure; mannitol; myocardium; personality; prostatectomy; prostatic hyperplasia; risk factors; ~urethral resection of prostate; ultrasonography; urodynamics.;

    Sammanfattning : A higher long-term mortality due to myocardial infarction after TURP, compared to open surgery, irrigating fluid absorption and blood loss, prompted this investigation of whether prostate size has any correlation with cardiovascular risk factors, whether two common fluids differ in terms of harmful effects, and whether premedication with finasteride may reduce the blood loss during TURP. Paper I; Fifty-two patients were studied before the treatment of their bladder outlet obstruction. LÄS MER

  2. 2. New diagnostic approaches to monitor irrigating fluid absorption

    Författare :David Piros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rinsing the endoscopic operating field with an irrigating solution entails the risk of absorption of the fluid. The physiological consequences of such absorption are explored and two new methods for monitoring the amount of absorption are proposed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Systemic absorption of glycine solution and the TUR syndrome : clinical, pathophysiological and pharmacological aspects

    Sammanfattning : Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) requires the use of an irrigating fluid to remove blood and debris to visualise the operating area. Despite modern technique, unpredictable amoumts of irrigating fluid, which usually consists of glycme 1.5% in sterile water, enters the circulation during nearly every routine TURP. LÄS MER
