1. Prostate cancer : epidemiological studies of risk factors
Sammanfattning : In spite of the fact that prostate cancer is the most common male cancer in both Sweden and many other countries in the developed world, little is known of risk factors and predisposing conditions. The only well recognized risk factors are age, race and familial aggregation. LÄS MER
2. Reducing the morbidity of transurethral resection of the prostate based on patient selection, fluid absorption, and blood loss
Sammanfattning : A higher long-term mortality due to myocardial infarction after TURP, compared to open surgery, irrigating fluid absorption and blood loss, prompted this investigation of whether prostate size has any correlation with cardiovascular risk factors, whether two common fluids differ in terms of harmful effects, and whether premedication with finasteride may reduce the blood loss during TURP. Paper I; Fifty-two patients were studied before the treatment of their bladder outlet obstruction. LÄS MER
3. Transurethral microwave thermotherapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia : mechanisms of action and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: The therapeutic value of transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT) in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a matter of debate. Aims: Evaluation of the clinical effect of TUMT and of various duration of the treatment; investigation of the kind and extent of tissue lesions induced by TUMT and of the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect; investigation of the effect of heat on human prostate stromal cells in cell culture. 4. Development of Feedback Microwave Thermotherapy in Symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Sammanfattning : Abstract: The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate ProstaLund Feedback Treatment® (PLFT®) and the CoreTherm® device with regard to biophysics, mechanisms of action, treatment indications, additional techniques, efficacy and safety in the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The application of two biophysical equations in the PLFT software is explained. LÄS MER
