  2. 2. Redefining suicidal behaviour – Rating scales and biomarkers

    Författare :Daniel Lindqvist; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurobiology; Suicide; attempted; Principal component analysis; Chemokines; Cytokines; Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal-Axis; Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid;

    Sammanfattning : Risk assessment of suicidal behaviour is one of the most important tasks in clinical psychiatry and a major determinant of subsequent care and treatment selections. To date, suicide risk assessment is based solely on clinical evaluations, which inevitably leads to subjective interpretations and decisions by the psychiatrist. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Glutamatergic mechanisms in schizophrenia : role of endogenous kynurenic acid

    Författare :Linda K Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Kynurenic acid, a tryptohan metabolite synthesised in astrocytes, is an endogenous antagonist at glutamate receptors, in particular it blocks the glycine site of the (NMDA)-receptor, and at the a7* nicotinic receptor. The compound has been found to be elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as well as in the postmortem prefrontal cortex of patients with schizophrenia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies on 5-hydroxytryptophol and the metabolic interaction between serotonin and ethanol

    Författare :Margareta Some; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :serotonin; 5-hydroxytryptophol; 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid; ethanol; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : The biogenic amine serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) is most abundant within the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), in blood platelets, and in the central nervous system. The 5HT system is involved in many physiological and behavioural processes in the body. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals

    Författare :Dimitrios Andreou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cerebrospinal fluid CSF ;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia.
