16. Communication Patterns in Consultations Between Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Health Professionals
Sammanfattning : Background Patients’ preferences, needs and desires are important when discussing treatment. In consultations between patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and health professionals, knowledge, understanding and insight about communication patterns are of vital importance for strengthening patient involvement in decision-making about their care and treatment. 17. Determinants of adverse events during oral anticoagulant treatment
Sammanfattning : Treament with oral anticoagulation is highly effective in reducing the burden of thromboembolic complications in several clinical conditions. The number of patients receiving oral anticoagulation is growing steadily. InSwedenabout 1.5 percent of the population receives treatment. LÄS MER
18. Major determinants of outcome and dosing in warfarin treatment
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to identify factors that determine individual patients sensitivity to the anticoagulant warfarin, and to quantify the effect of such factors on different measures of anticoagulation control. As part of this project, a large bio-bank was prospectively collected, with DNA and clinical data from more than 1500 patients starting warfarin treatment (the WARG cohort). LÄS MER
19. Cytochrome P450 pharmacogenetics : implications for anticancer and warfarin therapy
Sammanfattning : There is a pronounced interindividual variability in the drug disposition, response and toxicity. Pharmacogenetics aims at identifying genetic biomarkers that could help to increase the drug efficacy, reduce adverse drug reactions and contribute to the development of personalized medicine. 20. Cytochrome P450 2C9, 2C19 and 2D6 genetic polymorphisms : evaluation of genotyping as a tool for individualised treatment
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in the understanding of drug metabolism and the molecular biology of CYPs have generated great expectations regarding the use of pharmacogenetic testing as a tool to individualize drug treatment. The individual pharmacogenetic constitution might in principle predict the response to drugs, hormones and toxins. LÄS MER
