  1. 1. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney injury and regeneration

    Författare :Michelle Kha; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kidney; injury; regeneration; repair; scattered tubular cells; proximal tubular cells; podocytes; SOX9; HNF4A;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of kidney disease is constantly increasing with about 600 million people afflicted globally. Kidney disease may result in end stage renal disease, a condition that requires renal replacement therapy in the form of kidney transplantation or dialysis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of tubular scattered cells of the kidney in disease and regeneration

    Författare :Krzysztof Krawczyk; Malmö Klinisk patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney Diseases; acute kidney disease; acute kidney injury; chronic kidney disease; SOX9; pIgR; Polymeric immunoglobulin receptor; Immune cells; papillary carcinoma; pRCC; Kidney cancer;

    Sammanfattning : With well over 700 000 deaths every year worldwide, kidney disease constitutes an immense health problem for patients and society. The total global number of people with kidney disease regardless of severity amounts to a staggering 600 000 000. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mesenchymal stem cells for repair of the peripheral and central nervous system

    Författare :Maria Brohlin; Mikael Wiberg; Martin Birchall; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone marrow-derived stromal cells; Schwann cells; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord injury; Neurotransplantation; anatomi; Human Anatomy; cell research; cellforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to provide neuroprotection after transplantation into the injured nervous system. The present thesis investigates whether adult human and rat MSC differentiated along a Schwann cell lineage could increase their expression of neurotrophic factors and promote regeneration after transplantation into the injured peripheral nerve and spinal cord. 4. 4. Roles of the Shb and Cbl Proteins in Signal Transduction and Blood Vessel Formation

    Författare :Lingge Lu; Michael Welsh; Lars Holgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Shb; Cbl; FGF-2; NGF; PDGF; VEGF; VEGFR-2; differentiation; blood vessel formation; PC12 cells; endothelial cells; embryoid bodies; Rap1; CrkII; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Formation of blood vessels occurs through two processes: vasculogenesis and angiogenesis, which are regulated by various growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, fibroblast growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor. The present study was carried out in order to investigate the roles of the Shb and Cbl proteins in growth factor-mediated signal transduction and blood vessel formation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. ADAMTS13 phenotype in health and disease with special reference to thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

    Författare :Minola Manea Hedström; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; tubular cells; podocytes; kidney; plasma; ADAMTS13; thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Sammanfattning : Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is synthesized and secreted by endothelial cells into the plasma as a series of multimers. VWF induces the formation of platelet plugs at sites of vascular injury and high shear stress. Biological activity is dependent on multimeric size, which is regulated in plasma by the VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS13. LÄS MER
