  1. 1. Prediction of zinc-binding sites in proteins and efficient protein structure description and comparison

    Författare :Nanjiang Shu; Sven Hovmöller; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Alexander Luybartsev; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zinc-binding; shape strings; protein structures; secondary structures; machine learning; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Structural biology; Strukturbiologi; Biochemistry; biokemi; strukturbiologi; Structural Biology; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A large number of proteins require certain metals to stabilize their structures or to function properly. About one third of all proteins in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) contain metals and it is estimated that approximately the same proportion of all proteins are metalloproteins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Advancing systems biology of yeast through machine learning and comparative genomics

    Författare :Le Yuan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzyme turnover number; gene essentiality; horizontal gene transfer; machine learning; deep learning; yeast species;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic biology has played a pivotal role in accomplishing the production of high value commodities, pharmaceuticals, and bulk chemicals. Fueled by the breakthrough of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and various other yeasts (such as Yarrowia lipolytica , Pichia pastoris ) have been proven to be promising microbial cell factories and are frequently used in scientific studies. 3. 3. Big survivors with small flowers : Fossil history and evolution of Laurales and Chloranthaceae

    Författare :Helena Eklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis provides palaeobotanical evidence on Cretaceous Laurales and Chloranthaceae, and discusses and evaluates the material in a phylogenetic framework. Chloranthaceae extend back to the Barremian or Aptian and Laurales to the Albian (both Early Cretaceous). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Taxonomy and phylogeny of Dermatocarpon (Verrucariales, lichenized Ascomycotina) with special emphasis on the Nordic species

    Författare :Starri Heidmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Dermatocarpon; ITS rDNA; Morphology; Nordic countries; Phylogenetic analysis; Taxonomy; Verrucariaceae; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis Dermatocarpon (Verrucariales, lichenized Ascomycotina) of the Nordic countries is revised. Useful characters for species identification are epinecral layer type, spore length, medulla sensitivity to Melzer´s Reagent, and lower surface colour anappearance. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Selection and Floral Evolution in Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae)

    Författare :Johanne Maad; Charles B. Fenster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Evolution; phenotypic selection; male function hypothesis; mating systems; floral shifts; orchids; pollination; moth pollinators; Platanthera.; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Natural selection mediated by pollinators has influenced the evolution of floral diversity of the flowering plants (angiosperms). The scope of this thesis was to study: 1) phenotypic selection, 2) mating systems, and 3) floral shifts involved in plant speciation. Model plant species were Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae). LÄS MER
