  1. 16. Casting for Knowledge and Landing Understanding : Exploring the management of Swedish recreational fisheries as social-ecological systems

    Författare :Samuel Blyth; Patrik Rönnbäck; Malgorzata Blicharska; Stian Stensland; Shannon D. Bower; Anssi Vainikka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Recreational Fisheries; Fisheries Management; Catch Release; Social-ecological System; Angler Behaviour; Fish Behaviour; Fish Welfare; Stakeholder Engagement; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : The successful management of recreational fisheries must balance ecological, and social goals; select from and implement a range of management tools; operate under often complex governance structures; and contend with diverse human stakeholders’ expectations, desires, and actual behaviour in response to management activities. This complexity also means that there are many knowledge and research gaps regarding the information needed to meet the requirements of specific fisheries. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Fish for Food and Ecosystem Function : Fisheries, Trade and Key Ecosystem Processes in Coral Reefs

    Författare :Matilda Thyresson; Magnus Nyström; Edward H. Allison; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish; food; key ecosystem processes; functional groups; coral reefs; trade; gear; small-scale fisheries; social-ecological systems; Zanzibar; Tanzania; Western Indian Ocean; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Sammanfattning : Fish is a key source of food and income to millions of people living along tropical coastlines. They also play essential roles underpinning key ecosystem processes in coral reefs. For example, herbivorous fish keep algae in check that otherwise may outcompete corals, reducing the reef’s social-ecological values. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Functional Extinctions of Species in Ecological Networks

    Författare :Torbjörn Säterberg; Bo Ebenman; Kevin McCann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Functional extinctions; Extinctions; Fisheries management; Ecologically Effective Population sizes;

    Sammanfattning : Current rates of extinctions are estimated to be around 1000 times higher than background rates that would occur without anthropogenic impacts. These extinction rates refer to the traditional view of extinctions, i.e. numerical extinctions. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Optimal strategies and information in foraging theory

    Författare :Emma Sernland; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bayesian foraging; information use; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Naturvetenskap; Natural sciences; information use; Bayesian foraging; public information; prior information; negative binomial distribution; group foraging; decision-making; information updating; leaving strategy; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present both theoretical and empirical work where we have studied how humans and animals use information in situations where they need to continually update their information on the density of a resource. We have found that the amount of information, and the way the information is presented, are important factors for how well decisions are adapted to current circumstances. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Stewardship in Swedish Baltic small-scale fisheries : A study on the social-ecological dynamics of local resource use

    Författare :Emma Björkvik; Wiebren J. Boonstra; Thorsten Blenckner; Jonas Hentati-Sundberg; McCay Bonnie; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; case study research; local ecological knowledge; marine environments; practice; semi-structured interviews; small-scale fisheries social-ecological system; social-ecological traps; structuration theory; traditional ecological knowledge; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Sustainability scholars frequently advocate for stewardship as a strategy to foster sustainable development. Stewardship broadly refers to the wise and responsible use of nature, and is considered necessary to ensure the long-term wellbeing of humans and that of life in general. LÄS MER
