  1. 11. Environmental Effects from Wave Power : Artificial Reefs and Incidental No-take Zones

    Författare :Anke Bender; Jan Sundberg; Olivia Langhamer; Louise Kregting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine renewable energy; Wave power; Environmental monitoring; Artificial reef; No-take zone; Decapods; Nephrops norvegicus; ROV; Cage fishing; Biologi; Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Marine renewable technologies have rapidly been developing over the past decade. Wave power is one of the renewable sources and has the potential securing the renewable electricity production. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Predictive Modelling of Aquatic Ecosystems at Different Scales using Mass Balances and GIS

    Författare :Andreas Gyllenhammar; Lars Håkanson; Lars Brydsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; mass balance model; dynamic model; scales; marine fish farms; rainbow trout; nutrients; suspended particulate matter; phosphorus; nitrogen; GIS; basin delineation; regionalisation; coastal areas; aquatic foodweb; fishing quotas; Baltic Sea; Archipelago Sea; Okavango Delta; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents models applicable for aquatic ecosystems. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) form an important part of the thesis. The dynamic mass balance models focus on nutrient fluxes, biotic/abiotic interactions and operate on different temporal and spatial scales (site, local, regional and international). LÄS MER

  3. 13. Invading Herbivory. Effects of the Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata) in Asian Wetlands

    Författare :Nils Carlsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gastropoda; invasive species; golden apple snail; herbivory; wetland functioning; biodiversity; sustainable control; indigenous predators; size-dependent competitive ability; akvatisk ekologi; limnologi; Marinbiologi; limnology; Hydrobiology; aquatic ecology; marine biology;

    Sammanfattning : The South American golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) was intentionally introduced to aquacultures in South East Asia to produce snails for human consumption, but the aquatic snails soon escaped and started to consume large amounts of rice seedlings. The aim of this thesis was to quantify the effects of this invasive herbivore on aquatic plants in natural wetlands since previous research has focused on effects of the snail in rice fields. 4. 14. Opportunities and barriers for how private governance cancontribute towards sustainable fisheries : -A case study of Fishery Improvement Projects

    Författare :Sofia Käll; Beatrice Crona; Tim Daw; Tracy Van Holt; Louisa Evans; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental governance approaches increasingly include non-state actors such as industry and NGOs to promote and implement voluntary private sustainability standards. This type of private governance is particularly evident within the fisheries sector. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Learning ecosystem complexity : A study on small-scale fishers’ ecological knowledge generation

    Författare :Diana Garavito-Bermúdez; Camilla Thunborg; Cecilia Lundholm; Beatrice Crona; Alan Reid; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; small-scale fishers; informal learning; knowledge generation; systems thinking; ecological knowledge; ecosystem complexity; work practices; emotional bonds to place; sustainable fisheries management; environmental learning; Vättern; Blekinge; Baltic Sea.; pedagogik; Education;

    Sammanfattning : Small-scale fisheries are learning contexts of importance for generating, transferring, and updating ecological knowledge of natural environments through everyday work practices. The rich knowledge fishers have of local ecosystems is the result of the intimate relationship fishing communities have had with their natural environments across generations (see e. LÄS MER
