  1. 21. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 2. 22. Site and Mechanism of Action of Resin Acids on Voltage-Gated Ion Channels

    Författare :Malin Silverå Ejneby; Fredrik Elinder; Johan Brask; Dirk Snyders; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Voltage-gated ion channels are pore-forming membrane proteins that open or close their gates when the voltage across the membrane is changed. They underlie the electrical activity that enables the heart to pump blood and the brain to receive and send signals. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Mechanism of Action of the Antiarrhythmic Agent AZD7009

    Författare :Frida Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :atrial fibrillation; antiarrhythmic drug; IKr; IKur; Ito; IKs; IKACh; INa; ICaL; cardiac action potential; early afterdepolarisation;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common tachyarrhythmia in the adult population and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. AF can be terminated and sinus rhythm restored by prolonging the action potential duration (APD) and the refractory period. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Studies of Tight Junctions and Airway Surface Liquid in Airway Epithelium with Relevance to Cystic Fibrosis

    Författare :Harriet Nilsson; Godfried M Roomans; Anca Dragomir; Marie Johannesson; Olafur Baldurson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multi-organ autosomal recessive disease of fluid-transporting epithelia, due to a mutation in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. CFTR is a cAMP-regulated Cl-channel involved in various regulatory processes. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Investigating the pathological heart and its regenerative potential

    Författare :Evan Lee Graham; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is a leading contributor to mortality the world over, affecting millions of people each year. This, combined with its associated monetary and societal costs, has made the investigation of the etiology and pathophysiology of CVD a scientific priority. LÄS MER
