16. On the use of light for the characterization and treatment of malignant tumours
Sammanfattning : Some aspects on the use of light for tissue characterization and treatment of malignant tumours are discussed within this thesis. The work presented aims at improving optical techniques for tissue characterization, especially to detect malignant and pre-malignant lesions. LÄS MER
17. Model-based Approaches to Diffuse Optical Imaging and Dosimetry
Sammanfattning : The work within this thesis investigates Photodynamic therapy and Fluorescence imaging for therapeutics and visualization of deeply embedded lesions. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality that can eradicate tumors when light, a photosensible drug and oxygen are present. LÄS MER
18. On the diagnosis and treatment of intraepidermal carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Abstract: Intraepidermal carcinoma (IEC), also known as Bowen disease (BD) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in situ, is a precursor to SCC. The incidence of IEC is increasing rapidly in fair-skinned populations with a subsequent increase in patient morbidity. LÄS MER
19. Optical spectroscopy in biomedicine - detection of embedded inclusions and in vivo pharmacokinetics
Sammanfattning : The main theme of this thesis is the use of fluorescence spectroscopy in biomedicine. The work presented in the thesis can be divided into three areas of applications. The first area involves the use of fluorescence to find the location of a deeply situated fluorophore within turbid media. LÄS MER
20. Epidemiology, diagnostics and treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers
Sammanfattning : Skin cancer, including malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), is a growing problem due to the increasing incidence in Sweden and in other Caucasian populations. NMSCs are diagnosed as often as all other cancers combined and include basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), precursors to SCC such as Bowen’s disease (BD) and actinic keratosis (AK), as well as several rare skin cancers including Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC).
