  1. 11. Biomarkers in mid-trimester amniotic fluid in relation to gestational duration and spontaneous preterm delivery

    Författare :Maria Hallingström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; amniotic fluid; biomarkers; cytokine; damage-associated molecular pattern; gestation; gestational duration; inflammation; labor; mid-trimester; multiplex; pregnancy clock; proteins; spontaneous preterm delivery; term delivery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The biological mechanisms and physiological pathways of pregnancy maintenance and timing of delivery are complex and multifactorial. Pregnancy clocks, partly controlled by timing mechanisms linked to fetal development, which regulate the onset of labor has previously been described. LÄS MER

  2. 12. In silico prediction of CIS-regulatory elements

    Författare :Albin Sandelin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Transcriptional regulation; transcription factor binding sites; phylogenetic footprinting; pattern finding; pattern comparison;

    Sammanfattning : As one of the most fundamental processes for all life forms, transcriptional regulation remains an intriguing and challenging subject for biomedical research. Experimental efforts towards understanding the regulation of genes is laborious and expensive, but can be substantially accelerated with the use of computational predictions. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Improving group communication by harnessing information from social networks and communication services

    Författare :Juwel Rana; Mikael Wiberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Distribuerade datorsystem; Mobile and Pervasive Computing;

    Sammanfattning : On-line social networking and communication services are increasingly popular methods to communicate with friends, family and communities. Statistics shows that users of services like Facebook and Twitter stretches across geographical locations, professions, age groups and habits. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Seeing the invisible: Evolution of wing interference patterns in Hymenoptera, and their application in taxonomy

    Författare :Ekaterina Shevtsova; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcidoidea; parasitic wasps; structural colors; visual signaling; cryptic species; sexual dimorphism; wing membrane thickness; wing micro-morphology; wing cuticle ultrastructure;

    Sammanfattning : The remarkably thin transparent wing membranes in tiny wasps may appear to have a simple structural design, but hide a largely unexplored complex of micro-morphological features that serve aerodynamics and may also function in visual signaling. I found that when such small transparent wings are viewed against a dark background they display vivid structural color patterns due to thin film interference, and named them Wing Interference Patterns (WIPs). 5. 15. Data mining of geospatial data: combining visual and automatic methods

    Författare :Urška Demšar; Hans Hauska; Peter A. Burrough; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geographic information science; geoinformatics; geovisualisation; spatial data mining; visual data mining; usability evaluation; Other information technology; Övrig informationsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the largest databases currently available have a strong geospatial component and contain potentially useful information which might be of value. The discipline concerned with extracting this information and knowledge is data mining. Knowledge discovery is performed by applying automatic algorithms which recognise patterns in the data. LÄS MER
