  1. 21. Innate immunity in diabetes mellitus. Complement components C4BP and C3 promote survival of β cells under metabolic challenges

    Författare :Klaudia Kulak; Malmö Proteinkemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Complement System; Inflammasome; Islet Amyloid Polypeptide; Complement C3; C4b-binding protein C4BP ; Interleukin 1β; Autophagy-Related Protein 16 like 1; Diabetes mellitus; type 2;

    Sammanfattning : The Complement system is a main effector mechanism of the innate immune system, acting to enhance clearance of pathogens, but also aids removal of biological debris from the body, including immunocomplexes, apoptotic/necrotic cells and protein aggregates. Complement regulators serve to prevent excessive inflammation and their interaction with the same materials targeted by the complement system results in ‘silent’ cleaning of wastes. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Islet amyloid polypeptide in the control of food intake : an experimental study in the rat

    Författare :Urban Arnelo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :body weight; glucose metabolism; IAPP; meal patterns; monoamines; neuropeptides; radioimmunoassay; rats; satiety;

    Sammanfattning : Control of food intake and satiety are physiologically complex processes, that only partly are understood. Several hormonal peptides have been proposed to mediate satiety. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is a recently discovered 37 amino acid peptide, mainly produced by the pancreatic ß-cells. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Regulation of Islet Function by the Neuropeptide PACAP

    Författare :Karin Filipsson; Diabetes - molekylär metabolism; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postprandial; calcium; sodium; cAMP; intracellular signaling; glucagon; insulin; Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; PACAP receptors; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is known that parasympathetic, sympathetic and sensory nerves innervate the islets and that these nerves harbor both classical neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. However, the neural influence on islet hormone release is complex and not yet fully understood A recently discovered pancreatic neuropeptide is pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). 4. 24. Isolation and characterization of novel intestinal polypeptides of the enteroinsular and brain-gut axes and of macrophages

    Författare :Zheng-wang Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has been recognized as our largest endocrine organ, from which many peptide hormones, neuropeptides and growth factors have been isolated. There is also increasing evidence that the gastrointestinal tract can be considered as our largest immune organ, from which many antibacterial peptides, cytokines, cytotoxins and chemokines have been characterized. 5. 25. Assessment and monitoring of nutritional status in chronic kidney disease patients

    Författare :Thiane Gama-Axelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) often suffer from malnutrition and protein-energy wasting (PEW) resulting in poor nutritional status which is a powerful predictor of mortality. As it is not clear how well nutritional markers used in the clinical care of these patients accurately reflect nutritional status we evaluated in post-hoc, cross-sectional observational studies several common markers of malnutrition and PEW, and assessed their correlations to each other and to survival in patients with CKD stage 5 (CKD 5).
