11. Functional Studies of the Neuropeptide Y System : Receptor-Ligand Interaction and Regulation of Food Intake
Sammanfattning : The members of the mammalian neuropeptide Y family, i.e. the peptides neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP), are all involved in regulation of food intake. In human and most other mammals they act via receptors Y1, Y2, Y4 and Y5. LÄS MER
12. Studies of neuropeptides in pancreatic beta cell function with special emphasis on islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP)
Sammanfattning : The presence of protein amyloid in pancreas and its association to diabetes was first described 100 years ago in 1901, but was not identified as Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) until 1986. The aim of the present work was to determine the role of the beta cell hormone, IAPP, in normal pancreatic islet physiology and during early disturbances of islet function. LÄS MER
13. Nitric Oxide Synthase in Pancreatic Islets During Trauma and Parenteral Feeding
Sammanfattning : The influence of trauma (acute pancreatitis) or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on pancreatic islet hormone secretion in relation to islet expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) was investigated. Acute pancreatitis resulted in an impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) which was found to be parallelled by a marked expression of iNOS and an exaggerated NO production in the pancreatic islets. 14. In search of early biomarkers in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma using multi-omics and bioinformatics
Sammanfattning : Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a very aggressive malignancy with a 5-year survival of 10 %. Surgery is the only curative treatment. Unfortunately, few patients are eligible for surgery due to late detection. Thus, we need ways to detect the disease at an earlier stage and for that good screening biomarkers could be used. LÄS MER
15. Studies on Islet Amyloid Polypeptide Aggregation : From Model Organism to Molecular Mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The proper folding of a protein into its defined three--?dimensional structure is one of the many fundamental challenges a cell encounters. A number of tightly controlled pathways have evolved to assist in the proper folding of a protein, but also to aid in the removal of misfolded proteins. LÄS MER
