11. Fractionation of lipids and protein from the microalga Nannochloropsis oculata
Sammanfattning : To feed Earth’s growing population, microalgae have been proposed as a source of protein and long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFAs). Currently, microalgae are mainly sold either as whole biomass, or the economically valuable LC n-3 PUFA fraction is extracted with organic solvents. LÄS MER
12. Dietary exposure to persistent organochlorine compounds and health effects in women and their infants - Epidemiological studies on birthweight, cancer incidence, and mortality
Sammanfattning : In Sweden the main exposure route for both polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and other persistent organochlorine compounds is through consumption of fatty fish species from the Baltic Sea (the eastern coast of Sweden). Cohorts of fishermen's wives from the Swedish east and west coasts were established. LÄS MER
13. A Mediterranean dietary intervention study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Case control studies have shown that a high consumption of fish, olive oil, and cooked vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These foods have a central position in the traditional Cretan Mediterranean diet, and it has been suggested that dietary factors contribute to the low prevalence of RA in Mediterranean countries. 14. Oxidation of marine oils during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion and its effects on stress in human intestinal Caco-2 cells
Sammanfattning : Marine oils are attracting public interest due to the preventive effects, e.g., on inflammation, which are linked to the long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFAs). However, LC n-3 PUFAs are highly susceptible to oxidation, which could interfere with their positive effects. LÄS MER
15. Effects of Antioxidant and Lipid Lowering Treatment on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease : With special reference to Mixed Tocopherols and Stable Fish Oil
Sammanfattning : Vitamin E in food, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and lipid lowering treatment with statins have been found to decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiac death. However, clinical trials revealed no beneficial effect of intake of alpha-tocopherol alone. LÄS MER
