  1. 1. Ventilation distribution in the lung periphery measured by inert gas washout : influence of increased gravity, anti-G suit pressure, body posture, and breathing pattern

    Författare :Mikael Grönkvist; Göran Hedenstierna; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acceleration; anti-G suit; body posture; cdi; dcdi; human centrifuge; He; hypergravuty; lung; multiple-breath washout; single-breath washout; SF 6; standing; supune; trapped gas; ventilation distribution; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The lung is highly sensitive to forces of gravity and acceleration, and to surrounding pressures. This thesis aimed to assess the effects on ventilation distribution in peripheral lung units when changing the direction or magnitude of the gravitational vector and when compressing the lower body half with an anti-G suit (AGS). 2. 2. Exahaled NO and small airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Christina Keen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; exhaled NO; children; cystic fibrosis; flow independent exhaled nitric oxide; multiple breath inert gas washout; polyunsaturated fatty acids;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) are chronic inflammatory airway disorders known to involve the peripheral airways. Non-invasive tests sensitive to peripheral airway function and inflammation are therefore of high priority. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Peripheral airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis. Measurements using inert gas washout methods

    Författare :Henrik Ljungberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acinar; adults; airway hyperresponsiveness; asthma; children; conductive; functional residual capacity; gas trapping; inert gas washout; infants; peripheral airways; plethysmography; respiratory function tests; ventilation inhomogeneity;

    Sammanfattning : It is increasingly recognised that asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) frequently involves the peripheral airways. Characteristic features of abnormal peripheral airway function are uneven ventilation distribution and increased gas trapping. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monitoring cystic fibrosis lung disease in children - Clinical utility and associations between functional and structural methods

    Författare :Marcus Svedberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystic fibrosis; children; lung disease;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an inherited progressive disease that causes severe damage to the airways and other organs of the body. Many methods are available to track CF lung disease but longitudinal data are needed to better understand the clinical utility and associations between different methods. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Long-gap esophageal atresia - The development of an experimental model of esophageal regeneration in vivo as an attempt to improve clinical outcome

    Författare :Linus Jönsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long-gap esophageal atresia; Follow-up; guided tissue regeneration; small intestinal submucosa; pulmonary physiology; esophageal replacement; extracellular matrix; macrophage phenotype;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A subset (~8-15%) of the patients born with esophageal atresia (EA) suffer from a lack of esophageal tissue, which makes a primary anastomosis difficult to achieve. This is most common in patients born without a distal fistula between the trachea and the distal esophageal segment. LÄS MER
