  2. 7. Methods to measure mass transfer kinetics, partition ratios and atmospheric fluxes of organic chemicals in forest systems

    Författare :Damien Johann Bolinius; Annika Jahnke; Matthew MacLeod; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrophobic organic chemicals; vegetation; modified Bowen ratio; surface-atmosphere fluxes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Vegetation plays an important role in the partitioning, transport and fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) in the environment. This thesis aimed at addressing two key knowledge gaps in our understanding of how plants exchange HOCs with the atmosphere: (1) To improve our understanding of the uptake of HOCs into, and transfer through, leaves of different plant species which can significantly influence the transport and fate of HOCs in the environment; and (2) To evaluate an experimental approach to measure fluxes of HOCs in the field. Författare :Shengmei Xiang; Joakim Odqvist; Baohua Zhu; Stefan Jonsson; Johan Ahlström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fatigue; low-cycle fatigue; fatigue in an inert atmosphere; fatigue in a synthetic diesel exhaust atmosphere; corrosion-fatigue; creep-fatigue; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature fatigue; synergistic effect; corrosion-fatigue synergy; creep-fatigue synergy; high-temperature alloys; fatigue damage; creep-fatigue damage; corrosion-fatigue damage; ductile cast iron; high-alloyed austenitic cast steel; thermal cycling; precipitation; aging.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The future development of engines of heavy-duty vehicles towards reduced CO2 emission will increase the exhaust gas temperature and render the exhaust atmosphere more corrosive. The current service material of exhaust gas components - a ferritic ductile cast iron called SiMo51 - will soon meet its upper-temperature limit. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Plant Nanobionics : From Localized Carbon Capture to Precision Molecular Delivery

    Författare :Cyril Routier; Eleni Stavrinidou; Magnus Berggren; Seon-Yeong Kwak; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant nanobionics; Nanoparticles; Chitosan-modified polyethyleneimine; Infiltration; CO2 capture; Photosynthesis;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is an evolutionary marvel that not only sustains plant life but also profoundly shaped the climatic conditions necessary for the development of other advanced forms of life and the ecosystems we know today. During photosynthesis, plants harness the energy of light to convert carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the main greenhouse gases, into sugars for the growth of both themselves and organisms that consume plants, and oxygen that sustains life on Earth.
