1. Seismicity Analyses Using Dense Network Data : Catalogue Statistics and Possible Foreshocks Investigated Using Empirical and Synthetic Data
Sammanfattning : Precursors related to seismicity patterns are probably the most promising phenomena for short-term earthquake forecasting, although it remains unclear if such forecasting is possible. Foreshock activity has often been recorded but its possible use as indicator of coming larger events is still debated due to the limited number of unambiguously observed foreshocks. LÄS MER
2. Seismicity and earthquake source mechanism study in the East African rift
Sammanfattning : A new earthquake catalogue of the Horn of Africa has been compiled for the period from 1960 to 1993. The threshold magnitude of this catalogue is found to be 4.5 (mb). Spatial and temporal variation of seismic energy release and b-value are investigated for this catalogue. LÄS MER
3. Seismic quiescence patterns and earthquake prediction research : Testing hypotheses for Greece and China
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this investigation is to evaluate the most well known hypotheses and models in earthquake prediction research. For this reason we investigate the "localized" seismic quiescence hypothesis using the Z value griding method as well as the recently introduced Seismolap hypothesis of "extended" seismic quiescence. 4. Isotropic and Anisotropic P and S Velocities of the Baltic Shield Mantle : Results from Analyses of Teleseismic Body Waves
Sammanfattning : The upper mantle structure of Swedish part of Baltic Shield with its isotropic and anisotropic seismic velocity characteristics is investigated using telesesismic body waves (i.e. P waves and shear waves) recorded by the Swedish National Seismological Network (SNSN). LÄS MER
5. Inverstigations of Crustal Structure Structure and Seismo-Tectonics in the Western Branch of the East African Rift System
Sammanfattning : The most seismically active part of the East African rift system (EARS) is the western branch. Understanding the crustal structure and its evolution is important in order to obtain accurate locations and mechanisms of earthquakes, hence to deduce the nature of the neotectonics. LÄS MER
