  2. 2. Culture, Conflict and Crises in the Icelandic Fisheries : An Anthropological Study of People, Policy and Marine Resources in the North Atlantic Arctic

    Författare :Níels Einarsson; Hugh Beach; Rob van Ginkel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; environmental perceptions; fisheries governance; fishing culture; common property resources; economic crisis; human and animal rights; Iceland; marine-mammal conservation; privatization; whale watching; Cultural anthropology; Kulturantropologi; Kulturantropologi; Cultural Anthropology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is offered as a contribution to studies of social and cultural change in the Icelandic fisheries and fishing communities. Such changes may be seen as a result of the interplay of internal dynamics with both national and global forces and processes, not least with regard to the impacts of fisheries governance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans : from source of emission to human exposure

    Författare :Filip Bjurlid; Jessika Hagberg; Bert van Bavel; Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDD Fs; PCDD Fs; marine mammal; combustion; fire; human milk; occupational exposure;

    Sammanfattning : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs), which are ubiquitous in modern life and the environment, are the major source for polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs). The knowledge about PBDD/Fs is lim-ited compared to other environmental pollutants, even though PBDD/Fs show similar toxicity as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) which are considered to be among the most toxic man-made substances. 4. 4. Monitoring persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals, 1984 - 2009

    Författare :Anna Rotander; Bert van Bavel; Magnus Engwall; Jacob de Boer; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; marine mammals; North Atlantic Ocean; POPs; temporal variations; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic has become an important indicator region for assessing persistence and bioaccumulation properties of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This thesis is aimed at evaluating the occurrence of persistent halogenated POPs in seven species of sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals over a 25-year period. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Population dynamics of tundra-living grey-sided voles

    Författare :Per Ekerholm; Lauri Oksanen; Rolf Anker Ims; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Population dynamics; Tundra; Grey-sided vole; Cycles; Vole specialist predators; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the dynamics of tundra living voles with emphasis on the most common one, the grey-sided vole (Clethrionomys rufocanus). The tundra area chosen for the study was Finnmarksvidda, a vast flatland in northernmost Norway. LÄS MER
