1. Surface Force and Friction : effects of adsorbed layers and surface topography
Sammanfattning : Interfacial features of polymers are a complex, fascinating topic, and industrially very important. There is clearly a need to understand interactions between polymer layers as they can be used for controlling surface properties, colloidal stability and lubrication. The aim of my Ph. LÄS MER
2. Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy Studies at the Air-Liquid Interface
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the structure and hydration of small organic and amphipilic compounds adsorbed at the air-liquid interface, have been studied using the nonlinear optical technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The second order nature of the sum frequency process makes this technique particularly surface sensitive and very suitable for interfacial studies, as molecules at the surface can be distinguished even in the presence of a vast excess of the same molecules in the bulk. 3. Ionic liquids : The solid-liquid interface and surface forces
Sammanfattning : Ionic liquids (ILs) present new approaches for controlling interactions at the solid-liquid interface. ILs are defined as liquids consisting of bulky and asymmetric ions, with a melting point below 373 K. Owing to their amphiphilic character they are powerful solvents but also possess other interesting properties. LÄS MER
4. Surface Sampling and Automated Liquid Membrane Extraction of Fungicides
Sammanfattning : A number of approaches for fungicide determination are presented. A surface sampling technique is utilised for the determination of fungicide foliar residues on greenhouse surfaces, mainly leaves. The procedure is based on solvation of the fungicides on the leaf surface with ethanol and HPLC analysis. LÄS MER
5. Dynamic Wetting of Solid Surfaces, Influence of Surface Structures and Surface Active Polymers
Sammanfattning : The effect of surface structures on the dynamics of wetting was investigated through measurements of the dynamic contact angle and spreading velocity of oil droplets spreading over surfaces with parallel and gridlike V-shaped channels. A rim of liquid was observed to spread out in the channels ahead of the dropfront after a short time of spreading (seconds). LÄS MER
