  1. 31. Effects of Ubiquinone-10 on the Stability and Mechanical Properties of Lipid Membranes

    Författare :Emma K. Eriksson; Katarina Edwards; Victor Agmo Hernández; Emma Sparr; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ubiquinone-10; lipid bilayers; membrane stabilizer; liposome permeability; osmotic shock; cuvettes; solanesol; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Ubiquinones are a group of fat-soluble molecules present in many biological membranes. The most abundant version in humans, ubiquinone-10 (Q10), plays an important role in the mitochondrial respiration chain and also functions as a powerful antioxidant. Accumulating evidence suggests that Q10 also could have other functions in the membrane. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Aspects of DNA Strand Exchange: Recombination Proteins and Model System Studies

    Författare :Karolin Frykholm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA strand exchange; cationic liposome; Rad51; Site-Specific Linear Dichroism; RecA; molecular crowding;

    Sammanfattning : DNA recombination is of fundamental importance to all living cells; it is part of the DNA repair machinery and a means to generate genetic diversity. DNA strand exchange, the exchange of strands between homologous DNA molecules, is the central reaction of the recombination process. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Effects of gangliosides and PEG-lipids on the structure, properties and interactions of lipid self-assemblies

    Författare :Philipp Grad; Katarina Edwards; Marité Cárdenas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipid self-assemblies; solution-solid interface; liposomes; lipodisks; lipid bilayers; liposome permeability; cuvettes;

    Sammanfattning : When developing or utilizing lipid-based nanocarriers detailed structural characterization of the lipid self-assemblies, as well as in depth knowledge and control of their interaction with solids materials, is necessary to understand the behaviour. Disregarding one of the parameters can lead to misinterpretation of the results due to non-uniform samples or experimental artifacts caused by undesirable interactions with solid surfaces. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Membrane-mimetic systems : Novel methods and results from studies of respiratory enzymes

    Författare :Gustav Nordlund; Peter Brzezinski; Joachim Heberle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lipids; membrane proteins; method development; respiration; reconstitution; supported membranes; SNAREs; liposome fusion; lipid-protein interactions; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The processes localized to biological membranes are of great interest, both from a scientific and pharmaceutical point of view. Understanding aspects such as the detailed mechanism and regulation of these processes requires investigation of the structure and function of the membrane-bound proteins in which they take place. 5. 35. PROBING SECRETORY VESICLES AND LIPOSOME MODEL SYSTEMS USING NANOSCALE ELECTROCHEMISTRY AND MASS SPECTROMETRY

    Författare :Jelena Lovric; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neuroendocrine cells; NanoSIMS; liposomes; neurotransmitters; large dense core vesicles; Exocytosis; ToF-SIMS; vesicle electrochemical cytometry; electrochemistry; amperometry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular communication is based on the process of exocytosis, regulated release of chemical messengers into the extracellular space. These messengers, neurotransmitters, are packed into vesicles that during exocytosis fuse with the plasma membrane and release their content. LÄS MER
