21. A study of ethylene production via the 2-oxoglutarate dependent pathway in S. cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : The detrimental effect of the petroleum industry on the environment combined with the threat of peak oil has driven the exploration for alternative strategies to produce traditional petrochemicals. Biotechnological production could be an alternative, using microorganisms to convert renewable feedstocks into desired products. LÄS MER
22. Vem formar den stategiska forskningen? Institutionell dynamik och anslagspolitisk utveckling i KK-stiftelsen
Sammanfattning : Research policy is increasingly linked to social needs and to some extent integrated with industrial and innovation policy. The strategic research policy that emerged in Sweden in the early 1990's resulted in the establishment of a new kind of research funding both in form and direction: strategic research foundations. 23. Microbial Synthetic Biology, Systems Metabolic Engineering and Enzyme Engineering for Advanced Microbial Biodiesel Production with Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : The continuous requirement of transportation biofuels has brought the necessity to establish alternatives permitting low-cost production of biodiesel while being environmentally friendly. Biodiesel production was achieved utilizing Saccharomyces cerevisiae by employing respective enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs) based on fatty acyl-CoA molecules and ethanol. 24. Metabolic Engineering of Recombinant Protein Production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a widely used cell factory for the production of fuels, chemicals, and it also provides a platform for the production of many heterologous proteins of medical or industrial interest. In this thesis, random and rational approaches, such as vector design, host engineering, fermentation analysis, UV Mutation, coupled with high-throughput systems biology techniques (including whole genomic sequencing, microarray analysis and flux analysis) and integrated analysis (Reporter feature technique), were employed to engineer cellular properties more effectively and purposefully to construct cell factories for protein production. 25. Enzymes for selective decoupling of woody biomass: From fundamentals to industrial potential
Sammanfattning : The need for an economy based on renewable materials has resulted in growing interest in the use of woody biomass in a wider field of application. However, the chemical complexity of lignocellulose and the dense structure of wood pose challenges in its processing. LÄS MER
