1. Analysis, synthesis and application of automaton-based constraint descriptions
Sammanfattning : Constraint programming (CP) is a technology in which a combinatorial problem is modelled as a conjunction of constraints on variables ranging over given initial domains, and optionally an objective function on the variables. Such a model is given to a general-purpose solver performing systematic search to find constraint-satisfying domain values for the variables, giving an optimal value to the objective function. Sammanfattning : This thesis looks at present-day ecclesial use of the Bible by investigating the reception of narrative parables from the Gospel of Luke, chapters 10–15, in sermon guidelines published 1985–2013 in two periodicals aimed mainly at Church of Sweden clergy. The main problems can be expressed by the words “what”, “how” and “why”: What is received – and what is not received? How is that which is received understood? Why is the reception (and non-reception) of the Bible as it is? The introductory chapter deals with narrative parables generally and within the Gospel of Luke as well as with the genre of sermon guidelines. LÄS MER
3. Veils of irony : The development of narrative technique in women's novels of the 1790s
Sammanfattning : This thesis situates the innovations of three English novels from the 1790s by three relatively unknown women writers, Jane West, Charlotte Smith, and Anna Maria Bennett, against the background of a literary climate characterised by highly conventional forms of fiction in either sentimental or satiric modes. Their innovations consisted in the fashioning of parodic forms that would balance emotionality with irony. LÄS MER

The aim is to guide the reader towards a reflected attitude on implicitly conveyed messages, both as a sender, as a receiver, and as an argumentation analyst. 5. In the shoes of a soldier : Communication in Tim O'Brien's Vietnam narratives
Sammanfattning : This is a study of the American writer Tim O'Brien's If I Die in a Combat Zone, Going After Cacciato, and The Things They Carried. Unlike previous O'Brien scholarship, which is either historical-biographical or formalistic, focusing on the contextual meaning or the literary merits of his narratives, this dissertation studies O'Brien's war narratives within a functional and communicative paradigm.
