  1. 1. The Immune System in the Oldest-Old : Clinical and Immunological Studies in the NONA Immune Cohort

    Författare :Bengt-Olof Nilsson; Jan Ernerudh; Anders Wikby; Sture Löfgren; Karlis Pauksens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Elderly; selection; health status; lymphocyte subsets; CD8; CMV; cytomegalovirus; immune risk; immune risk phenotype; IRP; T-cells; interleukin 6; IL-6; survival; mortality; antinuclear antibodies; ANA; ageing; immunosenescence; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The oldest-old (people aged 80 or older) constituted 5 % of the population in Sweden in 2000, an increase from 1.5 % fifty years earlier. The immune system undergoes dramatic changes at high age, sometimes referred to as “immunosenescence”. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 3. 3. Studies of ulcerative colitis with concomitant primary sclerosing cholangitis : Beyond the clinical phenotype

    Författare :Johan Vessby; Marie Carlson; Maria Lampinen; Mikael Åberg; Fredrik Rorsman; Björn Lindkvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IBD; PSC; ulcerative colitis; PSC-UC; immunology; eosinophils; T cells; tissue factor; proteomics; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronically relapsing immune-related disorders, engaging the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms vary depending on inflammatory phenotype, but may include diarrhoea, bowel pain and weight loss. The two most common entities are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Defence on Demand : A physiological perspective on phenotypic plasticity in anti-predator traits

    Författare :Jerker Vinterstare; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phenotypic plasticity; inducible defences; stress physiology; cortisol; immune function; trade-offs; sexual dimorphism; crucian carp; visual ecology; predator-prey interactions; POMC pro-opiomelanocortin ; colour change; eco-immunology; Anti-predator defences; Inducible morphological defence; Phenotypic plasticity; Stress physiology; Cortisol; Immune function; Crucian carp; Predator-prey interactions; Trade-offs; Sexual dimorphism; POMC; Pro-opiomelanocortin; Visual ecology; Eye evolution; Melanin; Eco-immunology; Pace-of-life; Behavioural plasticity;

    Sammanfattning : Almost all species face some degree of predation risk, and, hence, evolution has produced a plethora of anti-predator defences. However, anti-predator strategies require resources, and the prevailing risk of becoming prey is influenced by many factors and rarely constant across time and space. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immune cell phenotypes of head and neck lesions associated with viral infections

    Författare :Aastha Sobti; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Tonsillar cancer (TC) and nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) are associated with high-risk humanpapillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), respectively. Similarly, benign lesions, knownas laryngeal papilloma (LP), are associated with low-risk HPV. LÄS MER
