    Sammanfattning : PurposeThe aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and risk factors for myopia development in a cohort of Swedish schoolchildren. The specific goals were: - to recruit a cohort of children aged 8 to 16 years and to follow the cohort over a period of 24 months with regular study visits; - to investigate the predictive value of relative peripheral error and other optical parameters for the prevalence and incidence of myopia; - to determine and investigate the predictive value of genetic and environmental factors, and structural characteristics of the eye to the incidence of myopia.     Sammanfattning : Background: Stem cell transplantation (SCT) offers a chance of cure in children with leukaemia and other life-threatening haematological, immunological, and metabolic diseases that do not respond to conventional treatment. Pre and post SCT, these children receive irradiation, and/or chemotherapy and immunosuppressive agents which like the primary disease may adversely affect the eye, the central nervous system as well as the posterior visual pathways and potentially threaten vision.     Sammanfattning : Purpose: Having a child with congenital cataract is associated with a huge responsibility for the parents in terms of the outcome of their child’s visual development. If the cataract is not removed the condition will lead to lifelong visual impairment and the surgery is preferably preformed within the first three months of life. LÄS MER
