  1. 16. Cardiovascular effects of growth hormone. Studies in genetically engineered mice

    Författare :Irene Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :acromegaly; autonomic nervous system; cardiovascular disease; cardiac function; vascular function; growth hormone; heart rate variability; hypertension; insulin-like growth factor-1; transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to enhance the understanding on the relationships between growth hormone (GH) and cardiovascular disease using genetically engineered mice. More specifically the effects of GH on blood pressure (BP), vascular and cardiac function, atherosclerosis and autonomic control of heart rate were studied. LÄS MER

    Författare :Erik Nylander; Mathias Hallberg; Alexis Bailey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; opioids; methadone; morphine; ketobemidone; fentanyl; oxycodone; hydromorphone; insulin-like growth factor; cell viability; NG108-15; SH-SY5Y; hippocampus; cortex; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : There is an ongoing opioid crisis in the United States that is portrayed by a large number of opioid-related deaths. Many of these cases involve commonly used prescription opioids, such as morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, and methadone. This is concerning and highlights the problems associated with long-term opioid treatment. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Health-Related Quality of Life and Growth Hormone Treatment : Long-term follow-up studies of women with Turner Syndrome and women with osteoporosis

    Författare :Emily Krantz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health-related Quality of Life; Growth hormone; Turner syndrome; Postmenopausal osteoporosis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Growth Hormone (GH) is used to increase height in Turner Syndrome (TS), the most common sex-chromosome aberration in women. GH is also beneficial for bone mass. However, little is known about how GH treatment affects Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). LÄS MER

  4. 19. Quality of Life in Adult Patients with Growth Hormone Deficiency : Bridging the gap between clinical evaluation and health economic assessment

    Författare :Maria Kołtowska-Häggström; Kesrtin (Chris) Bingefors; Dag Isacson; Paul Kind; Jens Sandahl Christiansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Health policy and health economics; growth hormone deficiency in adults; quality of life; cost-utility analysis; growth hormone replacement; normative data; QoL-AGHDA; Hälsopolitik och hälsoekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : The goals of this thesis are to evaluate quality of life (QoL) in adult patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in relation to population normative data, to construct a preference-weighted index (utility) from a disease-specific QoL measure and to assess it in a clinical context.The study included samples from the general population and patients with GHD from four European populations: England & Wales, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. 5. 20. Prolactin and growth hormone in breast cancer. Studies of human breast cancer and transgenic tumor models

    Författare :Maria Gebre-Medhin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prolactin; growth hormone; breast cancer; transgenic mice; estrogen receptor; insulin-like growth factor; insulin-like growth factor-I receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) are two related pituitary peptide hormones of importance during normal mammary gland development. Furthermore, their involvement in development and growth of malignant mammary tumors has been suggested by several investigators. LÄS MER
