11. DNA methylation and 5-azacytidine in myelodysplastic syndromes : pharmacodynamic, mechanistic and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : Promoter DNA hypermethylation and hence silencing of e.g. tumour suppressor genes is considered to be an important step in carcinogenesis and has been associated with poor outcome in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). LÄS MER
12. Local and global contaminants in Swedish waters : studies on PCBs, DDTs, 4,5,6-trichloroguaiacol and their transformation products in fish and sediments
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on studies on the environmental fate and methodological improvements for determination of the global contaminants, PCBs and DDTs, and locally discharged phenolics, e.g. 4,5,6-trichloroguaiacol (4,5,6-TCG), and their transformation products. LÄS MER
13. Array-based Characterization of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia : - with Focus on Subsets Carrying Stereotyped B-cell Receptors
Sammanfattning : In chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), the presence of multiple subsets expressing ‘stereotyped’ B-cell receptors (BCRs) has implicated antigen(s) in leukemogenesis. These stereotyped subsets display similar immunoglobulin (IG) gene usage, almost identical complementarity determining region 3’s and may share clinical features. LÄS MER
14. DNA methylation and gene expression patterns in adrenal medullary tumors
Sammanfattning : Pheochromocytomas and abdominal paragangliomas are neuroendocrine tumors of the autonomous nervous system, arising in adrenal medulla and sympathetic ganglia throughout the abdomen. These tumors originate from catecholamine-producing chromaffin cells. Neuroblastomas are common childhood tumors in the adrenal medulla and abdominal ganglia. LÄS MER
15. Genome-wide epigenetic profiling of B cell leukemia and lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Epigenetic modifications, at the level of DNA methylation and post-translational modifications of histone tails cooperatively function in the organization of the genome, and thereby establish the gene expression profiles, phenotypes, and cellular fates. In this work, we investigated the aberrant epigenome in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) which is one of the most frequent lymphoid malignancies in the west including the Nordic countries. LÄS MER
